I fail to see how any women who possesses an iota of self-respect could ever be a puke. Or perhaps I answered my own question.

(19,201 posts)there are still countless women who'll vote straight republican every election. WHY?
I don't get it. I really can't understand why people will continue to vote against their own best interests.

(7,263 posts)They think it IS in their best interests to be kept by a man. In fact, they have been CONDITIONED to feel that way.

(10,185 posts)We were stationed in Puerto Rico, Rosie Roads, together. She told me how she had to get her husband's signature to open up a checking account at a local bank. This was back in 1986.
The GOP was willing to have women join the military and risk their life for their country they just couldn't have a checking account, without their husband's permission, while doing it.

(10,185 posts)For some reason Puerto Rico still had those misogynistic draconian laws. She was pretty pissed.

(2,221 posts)I was working at Ma Bell, a good paying union job and wanted to buy a VCR player for the kiddos. I decided I wanted to establish my own credit so I wanted to finance it and make payments. Went to Sun TV and chose the model I wanted. When I told the salesman that I wanted the to finance it he told me Id have to have my husband fill out the paperwork and submit it. I objected-telling him I certainly met their threshold of weekly pay to support making monthly payments and I wanted my name and not my husbands on the financing. He was dismissive of me and said there was a section on the back that I could fill out but Id need my husband for the loan. Needless to say I walked away and did not buy it. There was a family owned tv store in my community so I decided to go there. Told the female co-owner of the store what and how I wanted to buy, told her what happened at Sun tv and she checked my weekly pay and said no problem-Id love to sell it to you!! So I fully understand the frustration of being denied the right to make a purchase that a man could have made with nary a problem.

(90,714 posts)go to the bank and complain about this and tell them you did not give him permission to do that and his name is to be removed immediately.
PoindexterOglethorpe
(25,862 posts)I cannot believe a bank would do that. You need to close that account and open one somewhere else that won't just allow anyone to add their name to your account.

(13,523 posts)understand why that gives him the right to put his name on the account without your permission or why a bank didnt ask your permission first. Does it have to do with the fact you made this money while you were married to him?

This is not the attitude of the MAJORITY of Republicans, outside of Texas and a few backward states. Sooner or later the Texas law is going to go away. Either when Abbott gets tarred and feathered and kicked out of government, or when the US Congress passes new Women's Reproductive Rights laws that will supersede anything the states do.
I hope I live long enough to see this happen.

(32,645 posts)... what really matters is whether she has a brain.
I didn't join the Democratic Party until 2008. I was an independent for 34 years of my "voting" life. However - NEVER ONCE did I vote for a Repuke. I remained independent because for a long time I believed there might be a Republican - sometime - that I might want to vote for. But there never was, since 1972 when I reached voting age.
I know there are a lot of independents out there who lean left, and mostly vote Dem because I was one of them. Anyone who is paying attention now, cannot possibly lean any other way. If they lean right, then they aren't paying attention. Also people who have quit the Repuke Party because of Chump - they aren't necessarily joining the Dems, many of them are going to remain independent.
I believe the future of our Party is bringing those left-leaning independents into our tent.

(1,654 posts)Some of them are already going back to the Republicans, especially those who consume mostly MSM, and only get their news from nightly evening news or local news. My best friend, a Republican all her life pretty much because her family always was, etc, but voted Biden this time because of the mess Trump made of COVID, is already saying she thinks Biden "may not be up to the job," because of whatever the line is today in the news. I almost exploded when she says she "kind of likes DeSantis" for 2024. She has heard little of his orders against masking of teachers and students in school and the steps he takes to try to enforce it. We usually have a no politics rule when we are together so I only get a small chance to explain DeSantis' antics.
