the airhead on Up with Chris, today? And she has a smirk that I want to slap off her face. (Bring me back from the edge.)

(14,195 posts)Then their mic will be turned back on.
Would only take a few weeks, and we could have a return to civil exchanges on air, if only they would do it.

(10,337 posts)You will also notice that they filibuster most every time they get the floor. This serves two purposes. First, it burns up air time so no one else can get their points stated. Second, it burns up air time to prevent other questions being asked. Two examples are Condi war crimes Rice at the 911 hearings and, most recently, Queen Ann chicken hawk Romney on The View when asked about her sons lack of military service. It's tactic that they have all been taught and, once you are aware of it, it's easy to spot. It's deliberate.

(619 posts)or just stop inviting them on, at least for the next few weeks.
Not sure how I'd categorize Real Time, but Friday night's show had 2 rightwing blowhards; yesterday's Melissa Harris-Perry had Todd Akin's filibustering campaign manager; and today's Up with Chris Hayes has Condoleeza Rice's hypervocal former speechwriter.
Their methods of overtalking and putting outlandish falsehoods & distortions out there are stealing away the time for getting our own points across. Instead, those who want to discuss the facts are put on the defensive and lose precious time being able to get to the truth of the matter. In the meantime, viewers get tired of this and stop watching. Not good, and all by design.
These people should not be getting the microphone right now. I don't know of any law that says they have to even be there. Talk shows that actually seek to inform viewers with the truth should not allow victory of any kind to these right wing dominators whose goal is to win the argument and have their sound bites used.
Their distortions and propaganda should not be allowed to prevail.

(8,758 posts)They are the little dog to the bully dog in Tom and Jerry. They like to see those thugs bullying people, makes them feel empowered. They're afraid that we, liberals, have taken over somehow. Which is, of course, not true. Still, those viewers are motivated by fear, and they like to see a liberal getting yelled at so they can feel secure.
I've observed them for years now, they are afraid of everything and insecure about their own actions. But they manifest that fear with anger and bulling.

(5,420 posts)Since almost everything they say is a lie, the trick is to not let the other guy call you out on it. They think loud means winning. They know that the audience will only hear what they are saying and will not trouble with fact checking it. For most, hearing is believing.

(111,110 posts)The young lady on Chris's show has been on there before but she had not been this shrill. Then we had the two bozos on Bill Maher the other night and they acted the same way. I'm thinking they have been told to scream and shout to get their point across and don't let the other side talk at all.
