Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) signaled he is open to a budget reconciliation bill in the ballpark of $1.9 trillion to $2.2 trillion, above the limit he set just last week of $1.5 trillion, The Hill reports.

This isn't one of those spending bills that has a bunch of normal stuff that would be funded regardless and then 10% on the top of progressive spending, this is $3.5T of great things for working people and America. Whatever the number ends up at, it's still going to be full of good. You don't turn down $2.0T of awesome, ever.

7. Take the 2.2, reduce the number of years to 6.5 (2.2 is approximately 65% of 3.5, 6.5/10 yrs.) Done!

9. Of course he is; did anyone seriously think he would hang tough at $1.5T?

Manchin will negotiate in good faith (for him) a compromise deal that meets his, and his donors, comfort level.

Sinema will then stand alone, with little input or leverage on the final deal. Of course, she will grandstand and threaten to sink the whole deal with her lone “no” vote.

Of course, she doesn’t have courage to do so, and will fall in line and pass the reconciliation bill with the rest of the Dems. Regardless of her delusions that her maverickyness will propel her to higher office, I think her instincts for self-preservation will kick in and ensure a “yes” vote. To do otherwise would be to invite catastrophic political consequences.

Manchin is in the driver’s seat, Sinema is in the back in the child’s seat with the fake steering wheel that goes “beep beep” and makes a lot of noise.

10. The magic number is $2.1 trillion over 6 years. That yields the exact same per annum spend as

$3.5 trillion over 10 years. We can do this!!!

If that happens my only regret is that on the bi-partisan deal Manchinema and the Rethugs chopped Biden's new spend is $2.6 trillion by almost 80 per cent to only $550 billion. Wish we could have had only half or so cut, so around $1.3 trillion in new spend and tax credits. When you add in the $650 billion in renewals of pre-existing programmes, the total cost still would have been under $2 trillion. Barely under, but under nonetheless. I am sure that the Rethugs were the the ones who really went for the kill shot, as Manchin looks amenable to cuts in the 40-45 per cent range. 50 per cent would have been an easy sell.

Khanna seemed to think a good compromise could be worked with Manchin now that he has decided to engage. He seemed quite optimistic about a deal in the not too distant future. And Sinema isn't going to be the lone hold out if Manchin signs on to a budget reconciliation bill.

Your fifteen minutes of fame are up. Nobody cares what you say anymore. If you want to help the GQP destroy our democracy - fine and dandy. If you want to help build America back better - that’s just peachy too. Frankly - we just don’t want to spend another minute on your pathetic little soap opera.
