(16,186 posts)If an acquaintance of yours has your contact info in their address book on their phone, and clicks yes to accessing their contacts so they can find their friends, you can end up with a shadow profile in their database. Linking you to a couple people who DO use Facebook, or linking your shadow profile with externally sourced information, they can accumulate data about you even if you never agreed to be on their platform.

(54,770 posts)Ive been looking up stuff I could use on an upcoming trip, musical instrument, etc. Darn if FBs algorithms havent figured that out. Ive gotten some really good suggestions through their algorithms.
With that said, I recognize and am concerned about some not so positive aspects of FB, and just about every site on the internet.
Fortunately, dont think most people are too stupid to sort out the BS and lies. Now its another question whether they care.
I also worry about young kids, the mentally frail, etc., who might not handle the BS on social media.
