TFG Whined to Acting Attorney General: You'll Do Nothing to Help Me 'Overturn' Election?

On Jan. 3, days before Donald Trump’s supporters went on to ransack the U.S. Capitol, the president allegedly opened a high-stakes Oval Office meeting by complaining to his acting attorney general that he was doing nothing to help him “overturn” his election defeat by Joe Biden.

The extraordinary claim was made by former Acting Attorney General Jeffrey Rosen in an interim report released by the Senate Judiciary Committee on Thursday morning. It concludes that Trump and his top aides repeatedly put pressure on Justice Department officials to endorse his election conspiracy theories and help him reverse the result.

In one particularly egregious example, Rosen recalled that Trump opened an Oval Office meeting on the evening of Jan. 3 by complaining to the gathered officials: “One thing we know is you, Rosen, aren’t going to do anything to overturn the election.” The meeting would end with several DOJ officials and White House counsel Pat Cipollone threatening to quit over Trump’s plan to replace Rosen with a MAGA loyalist.

Overall, the interim report lists nine calls and meetings with Rosen and Acting Deputy Attorney General Richard Donoghue between mid-December and early January in which Trump demanded help in his quest to delegitimize the election and remain in the White House.

A POTUS acting like a treasonous, traitorous, democracy-hating, fascist fucking ASSHOLE during his lame-duck session, trying to undermine the legitimate election that caused his ouster by leveraging the power of the DoJ in a clearly evil and fraudulent manner ... is perfectly okay, per our laws.

I would really hope our intrepid Democrats would want to do something about this untenable situation legislatively in the 2 years they have here.

Up until this time, Poor Donny had treated the Department of Justice like his personal law firm, a law firm stocked with great lawyers, a law firm that never asked him for a retainer or sent him a bill. Oh, there was that initial misunderstanding when AG Jefferson Beauregard Sessions III recused himself, but that was very early on, before Poor Donny really cranked up the corruption; Sessions' successor wouldn't make that mistake again. Political appointees and career attorneys alike snapped to Poor Donny's commands for years, balking only slightly at some of the most corrupt ones.

Then Poor Donny lost the 2020 election.

Old habits die hard, and DOJ is no exception. They did what Poor Donny commanded, even though he was on a very short term lease. It was only as 2020 turned to 2021 that the DOJ stood up at last for the rule of law and declined to help him in a clearly illegal quest to nullify the 2020 election results. For this, they apparently want a cookie, and please don't get all investigative on things we were doing before January 3, 2021.
