Statement by Donald J. Trump, 45th President of the United States of America, 10/13/21"If we dont solve the Presidential Election Fraud of 2020 (which we have thoroughly and conclusively documented), Republicans will not be voting in 22 or 24. It is the single most important thing for Republicans to do."
If Trump hangs onto this idea - and when has he ever had a dumb thought he didn't hang onto? - he is literally threatening the Republican party with total political destruction if they don't cede to his demands.
The GOP knows that Trump still has sway over hardcore MAGAts, voters who will blindly follow his lead - apparently too stupid to realize that the only thing that will be achieved by not voting will be putting Democrats in office.
If Trump persists in his call for Republicans to sit out the 2022 and 2024 elections, the GOP has only two choices: support his position (political suicide), or go against Dear Leader, the man they've repeatedly told their constituents is to be supported and obeyed.
Rock and a hard place doesn't even come close to where the Republican leadership now finds itself.
Of course, there's always the chance that the GOP leadership will talk the Orange Madman in off the ledge - explain to him that his current rhetoric can only spell disaster for the party that supported him, enabled him, covered for his corruption.
But then again, we all know how much loyalty Trump has for anyone other than himself. We all know that given the chance to take down the party he now sees as too spineless to have overturned the 2020 election and re-instate him as pOTUS, he'll turn on them in a New York minute.
The next few days/weeks will be interesting. Republicans will respond to Trump's latest tirade with claims that he was taken out of context, or that his statement was simply misunderstood.
But in the end, Trump will inevitably do what he thinks is best for HIM - and if the GOP collapses under the weight of his enormous ego, he won't blink an eye.
We know that Trump wants revenge against everyone and anyone who has failed him, slighted him, questioned his self-perception of omnipotence. What greater revenge could there be than to destroy an entire party all at once, along with the political aspirations of those who he perceives as his enemies?
Trump has one last chance at exacting revenge - and any Republican who thinks he won't grasp at that chance is even dumber than they've already proven themselves to be.

I find this to be a fair and acceptable offer.
The scaly body of the GOP is starting to look more and more like a dinosaur. Before the meteor hit.
TFG: "If we dont solve the Presidential Election Fraud of 2020 (which we have thoroughly and conclusively documented)"
Please make said documents public! No, hearsay/third hand counts and ephemeral accusations won't fly.
Republicans please respond - a sulk session with lip pouting, foot tamping are all acceptable.
Whatever.
But please do as Dear Leader wants, don't vote!

(6,625 posts)... but it bears repeating. I read what he said as a warning to Republican candidates that they'll lose the base if they don't aggressive pursue the Big Lie. It's somewhat ambiguous, but I don't think he's exhorting the base not to vote. It's a warning to politicians, not a call to action (or inaction?) for the base.
His reference to "most important thing for Republicans to do" is directed at pursuing the big lie, not at boycotting the election. I know he's stupid, but I don't think he's that stupid.

(6,625 posts)Clearly -- to me, at least -- he's saying that the most important thing to do is to pursue the Big Lie so as not to alienate the base.
