Imagine that in fifty state capitol buildings.
The first test will be in Richmond.
The Democrats better get fires lit under their asses. If the J6 terrorists are not soundly defeated RIGHT NOW, I fear what's next.
No "calm down" please. Instead, convince me I am wrong to worry.

(1,328 posts)Things are bad and theyre going to get worse. Were relying on the ballot box, but the rethugs have hidden them, stolen them, and will disregard them when the time comes. Theyre showing their hand and were helpless against them. Even massive voter turn out wont preserve us. I think its time to enjoy how good things are now, because if the Rs win, well look back on these as the last golden moments.
Im hoping someone steps in on this thread and convinces you youre wrong. I could use some encouragement.

The American people want something done, before their next insurrection which is coming like a freight train steaming across this country. Lack of action has embolden these assholes, like the light sentences being handed down now. WAKE UP can't you smell the trouble brewing?

Instead of intelligent discussion with your opposing view you throw out mild insults and silly little pictures.
Do you think the right wing crazies have learned acquiescence and will act like normal people? Do you think voting is secure? Do you think state legislatures in some states don't have the power to negate the majority's electoral choices? Do you think Merrick Garland has things in hand to protect small d democracy? Do you think the Supremes are honest brokers?
Do you think things are as they always were and we will win some and they will win some?

(5,944 posts)Sounding an alarm is not the same thing as defeatism - not by a long stretch. An alarm, by its very nature, is likely to instill fear, and that is appropriate when there really is something to fear.
Some might have found grounds on which to accuse Paul Revere of fear-mongering, but that was not his intent. He didn't ride through the countryside shouting, "The British are coming! All is lost!". I still don't read "We'd better get a fire lit under our asses" as "we're doomed", but rather, as a call to action.
I'll always be the first to call out defeatism and doomsaying in the ranks on DU, but I'm just not seeing that in the OP. That said, though, I'll add that I'm dismayed at the way that some sub-threads have quickly deteriorated into flamefests. I'm seeing things that seem to border on violation of the Terms of Service, but I have never had an itchy alert-button finger myself.

(1,396 posts)The poster then asks for any rational explanation as to how to avoid it happening. I don't see any possible way to avoid the election rigging the repukes have already "legalized". The reaction to the election rigging in 2022 will be widespread violence including state capitols being attacked, government workers being attacked, protestors being attacked and liberals in general being attacked.
That's not fear, that's reality. There's no "call to arms" because it's up to every individual to do what they will when the election rigging occurs. Some will protest, some will fight, some will be scared to death, some will hide their head in the sand.

(42,862 posts)This is the type of thing that Michael Moore does. Doom and gloom predictions that essentially serve as a de-motivational roadmap to failure. And at that time (if the dire predictions happen... or even if they come close to materializing) then people like Moore will gleefully shout and proclaim: "See? I told you so! Nobody would listen to me, but I told you so, didn't I?"
And the flip side of that... when the dire predictions do NOT happen... Moore is the type of person who declares "If it wasn't fore ME sounding the warning bells, things would have been worse. You can THANK ME for sounding the alarm and averting disaster."
It's a win-win for cynical frauds like Moore. I can't stand that SOB. He's a Nader and Stein supporter.

(14,335 posts)I will grant that the fervor on the right has only increased. But so has our resolve not to repeat that incident.
The insurrectionist faction sees the feds on their asses, they have to show up in court, and the truly violent ones are getting some serious charges. The ones who went along (but still tried to overthrow the government) get reduced charges and sometimes only probation provided they cooperate and show investigators their phones. So I think the DOJ is racking up evidence against TFG.
There is talk of civil war, and a few incidents of violence related to political divisions. Those probably will increase in the short term. But an end game or a strategy for such a war? Its truly unworkable. You kill a few of your neighbors, then what?
So yeah, youre not wrong to worry. There will be more violence, but I dont see another full-on civil war getting anywhere. Thats small consolation, I know.
Right now, the Right is being inflamed by lies. You cant really blame them, if you can look past the stupidity. I was outraged by 2000 and 2004, which I thought were stolen too. At this point, while we await some charges for TFG, its probably best not to antagonize our fellow citizens too much. If they see him hauled off and evidence of what hes done, maybe his support will diminish. Thats my only hope right now; that and some of Bidens plans succeeding eventually.

When all is said and done, we're going to be left with a good 25-30% of Americans who REFUSE to EVER get the Covid vaccine. While still not the majority, that mere fact does not lend itself to any kind of optimistic view of this country's future, IMO.

(836 posts)Any insurrection at any Capitol will be in red states only. You think you're going to have an overthrow of state government in Cali? Not likely.
There are three more years of the Biden admin left. He controls the military and any "organized" BS from the right would be crushed. I constantly hear "they have all the guns!" No, they don't; not all of them.
What we have is predominately a rural vs. urban thing going on now. The goal of the rural right is an autocratic theocracy and power-mad pols are using the faithful to achieve that end. Ain't gonna happen.
Number one, they are in the minority. Number two, you think the majority is going to sit back as they dismantle rights for their LGBTQ family members and POC? Ain't gonna happen.
So let them do their thing. This is a death spiral we are witnessing.
Yes, there will be BS from the right. Yes they will try to insert their will forcefully and through the courts. We will ultimately probably have to hit the streets. So be it.
You HAVE to remember the media - for the most part - are outrage profiteers. They scare the shit out of you so you'll come back for more. Don't let them.
Finally, I live among these people in a rural area. I know them. They are good people who would give you the shirt off their back. But, they are tribal, they live in a Christian-centric silo where they only interact with people like themselves. They are not critical thinkers, not self-aware (cannot see their own absurdities) and are deeply afraid; their fears stoked by the outrage media they are addicted to. In groups they immediately go pitchfork-and-torch and would break your head (ala 1/6/21). Get them alone and they shrink. They CAN be dissuaded; over time in calm, compassionate, one-on-one settings.
I take it a day at a time. I refuse to live in fear. If action is required on my part in the future to preserve democracy an thwart autocracy/theocracy, I will be there.
So will millions of others.
