Yes, I know Powell was wrong about the UN speech. I believe his life, his service, and his recommendations of Obama in 2008, HRC in 2016 & Biden in 2020 were very important.
The other 2 and Shrub, I'll visit their gravesites after a gallon of cold tea and a screw top jar in my backpack.

The shit we sow results in the reek we reap.
The Universe is morally indifferent indeed, while within that Universe we create our own karmic worlds of personally pleasant and unpleasant circumstances.
Shit happens. Some seem predisposed to play in it.
Others conscientiously clean the gardens they tend.

I do - because it's why when that time bomb exploded in my dad - 6 months to a year became 3 months.
He was of my dad's era as is my god father. SOS General Powell - he had a time bomb in him. That rank did not come easy for his time in the military.
There was no way he was going to survive C-19 - vaccinated or not.
And I understand - at an emotional level - why does a good man die and the evil thrive?

Sure, I disagreed with Powell on multiple issues, but overall he was light and day in comparison to the Rumsfelds, Dick Cheneys, Trumpsters, and their ilk. He was flawed and made mistakes. Most people do over the course of 80-plus years. But save some fire for those who never even admitted, much less tried to learn from their mistakes-- or who overtly committed war crimes and/or advocated crimes against humanity.
It is disheartening to see some of the comments here that seem to forget that.

No one here forgets the misdeeds, including the UN speech, and My Lai. I do remember the past 13 years with Powell, expressing recriminations for that UN speech, supporting Obama, calling out Trump and the Trumpist-owned Republican party, and defending Biden. Evil remains evil. Powell was NOT evil.
Save it for Cheney. Save it for Trump. Save it for all who truly deserve everything that can befall them to and including death.

(14,061 posts)Powell did what he was told to do, and he believed it to be true, as most did. He later regretted his role in it. I cant think of anyone else in the Bush administration who would ever do that, especially Cheney.
I respected Colin Powell, and I was saddened to hear of his passing. RIP, sir.
