Can anyone help me out with an answer to this?

My sister and I just recently reconciled - she is a Fox watching, rightwing wacko. We have been able to communicate lately ONLY because there are NO politics in our communications - until NOW. I was sent this. Does anyone have a good fact-filled reply I can send her and her friends?

Apparently, Newsom is the grinch who stole Christmas . . . because he can. Thanks California. I'll explain this to my grandchildren. And, no, I won't be sharing my toilet paper.
* Here’s the Major Reason the Container Ships Can’t Be Unloaded and the Products Delivered: {as always happens under socialist central control economies}
The trucking issue with California LA ports, ie the Port of Los Angeles (POLA) and the Port of Long Beach (POLB), is that all semi tractors have to be current with new California emissions standards. As a consequence, that means trucks cannot be older than 3 years if they are to pick up or deliver containers at those ports. This issue wipes out approximately half of the fleet trucks used to move containers in/out of the port. Operating the port 24/7 will not cure the issue, because all it does is pile up more containers that sit idle as they await a limited number of trucks to pick them up.
In effect, what this 2020 determination and settlement created was an inability of half the nation’s truckers from picking up anything from the Port of LA or Port of Long Beach. Virtually all private owner operator trucks and half of the fleet trucks that are used for moving containers across the nation were shut out.
In an effort to offset the problem, transportation companies started using compliant trucks (low emission) to take the products to the California state line, where they could be transferred to non-compliant trucks who cannot enter California. However, the scale of the problem creates an immediate bottleneck that builds over time. It doesn’t matter if the ports start working 24/7, they are only going to end up with even more containers waiting on a limited amount of available trucks.
* Copied and Pasted.
And that, ladies and gentlemen, is why the cupboards are bare even with doubled gas prices.

Your help will be appreciated!

1. If you reply

If you reply, you'll just be going backward on your reconciliation.

If you want to have any kind of relationship with her, other than fighting over politics, it may be best to ignore this.

3. I saw that from a right-wing relative, too.

There may be some truth in it, but I suspect it is highly exaggerated for propaganda reasons. I know that California is pushing hard against trucks that emit too much pollution, but such things are generally phased in slowly.

I'm no longer in California, so I haven't been following this stuff, but I'm willing to bet that that post that is being forwarded by right-wingers is incorrect overall. There might be some truth in it, but I doubt that only trucks 3 years or less in age are allowed to pick up freight at the ports.

In the distant past I'd try to present facts from unbiased sources to those folks. They aren't going to accept anything as fact that they don't hear from outlets like FoxNews.

Facts are facts, and if the parties can't come to an agreement about what the facts are, any discussion is just a waste of time.

If the claim was true, a easy massive business opportunity would be to set up operations on main travel routes where trucks not meeting emission standards could drop trailers for trucks that meet emission standards to go to the ports.

But of course the claim is right wing BS.

Remind her your relationship requires no discussion of politics. If you get into it with her now, it will never stop.

Edited to add: She's showing a shocking lack of respect for you in sending this after you've reconciled. You might mention you'd never do that to her.

In general, I find that rwers are incapable of respecting an agreement to avoid politics, while liberals are, for the most part, very good.

I am disgusted with people who spread rumors... they just make things worse and divide us even more...

https://www.businessinsider.com/california-longshoreman-describes-record-port-backlog-los-angeles-long-beach-2021-10

But this backup is not part of a “manufactured supply chain halt” or deliberate attempt to stop shipments like some people are claiming online.

Experts say that one of the biggest reasons for the pile-up in ships is a shift in consumer spending habits as folks spend more time at home.

“Consumers have shifted their spending from services to goods during the pandemic, and supply chains are struggling to keep pace,” said Jeffrey Michael, executive director of the Center for Business and Policy Research at University of the Pacific. “The ports in Southern California are actually moving record levels of containers, but they haven’t been able to keep up with increased demand.

https://www.capradio.org/articles/2021/10/02/no-back-up-of-cargo-ships-off-southern-california-coast-not-due-to-manufactured-supply-chain-halt/

It is correct that there is a record-breaking number of ships at anchor in Southern California waiting to unload their cargo, according to the Marine Exchange of Southern California. But experts say that the backup is being caused by labor shortages, holiday buying surges and other COVID-19 related issues.

There is a new law.
It passed in 2020.
Objective: to reduce carbon emissions in Calif’s already polluted air.

But it doesn’t go into effect until - 2024!
To give truck manufacturers time to adjust production lines.
And that doesn’t mean compliance, that just tells trucking companies the FIFTEEN YEAR clock to full compliance has started.

They have until 2039 to retrofit, or more likely, REPLACE their aging fleets.

People who believe conspiracy theories are rarely moved. They just dig in deeper when you present facts. If not for this conspiracy, it will be for the next. For the sake of maintaining your relationship, gently remind her of your agreement and switch the topic.
