WTF?
With a lawsuit filed Monday, Trump began in earnest his legal war against the House's Capitol insurrection investigation. He is seeking to block the National Archives from releasing the documents to the House select committee investigating the attack.
According to the court filings, Trump has less than a month to get an initial court order blocking the release of the records. The National Archives told Trump last week that it intended to turn over the documents on November 12, as President Joe Biden had declined to assert executive privilege over them.
Trump's efforts to act quickly now to stop the release could ultimately turn into larger strategy to run down the clock, legal experts told CNN. With Democrats in danger of losing control of Congress in next year's midterms, if Trump can drag out the litigation long enough, it could be enough to sink their request for the documents, regardless of how the legal questions are ultimately settled.

(26,753 posts)... is to recognize that he doesn't need to win in court in order to win overall IF he can just delay the process long enough.
Just like Biden said (essentially) "no... but hold off on releasing the documents for now to give him a chance to appeal" - other courts could easily reject his legal arguments, but still keep the release on hold while he appeals that decision.
Since there's no reason to accelerate the process (other than the obvious), the process could very well take past the next election. And even if it doesn't, a six month delay harms the progress of the committee.

(3,245 posts)on Trump being single handedly being able to derail the investigation.
Remember, the committee has at least 15 subpoenas outstanding, most of which right now are centered around the organizers and funders. This is really following the money.
I'm only guessing, but since literally no one would be able to make any types of privilege claims, the best they would be able to do is plead the 5th. The optics of that within the general public would be pretty telling.
Politics are really time sensitive. What may seem like something that may not look like the committee is really doing a great deal, they are, and they're going at a pretty good pace.
Who knows what we'll know in a year from now. Even Trump's stonewalling won't be able to hide all the information that may be available. The lights that can be shining a year from now could be even brighter and could force many Republicans to either disavow the stances they're holding now or risk losing.

(21,375 posts)this is why I have been begging for DOJ to get involved, a person can't stall being called before a grand jury. It is going to be up to Marrick Garland, to DOJ, to save our democracy.

So I thank you for your sacrifice, and I agree with your assessment on the motives of CNN/MSNBC
I dropped my on line subscription with Sling in order to get MSNBC right after Jan 6th. I'm wondering if a lot of other folks did the same thing and cable news is desperate to regain all the lost viewers once Biden took office? It sure seems like that's what this is all about.
That plus they don't want to pay more taxes I guess.

(4,553 posts)To simply suppress documents when these are Congressional and legal investigations.
So sick of all the legal challenge gamesmenship going on.
Seems like justice is no longer served, in many scenarios in this country.
The only swift justice (and often injustice) we see is on the minority, and vulnerable people in this country. Children in handcuffs???????? What is this????? Where are we living?????
Trump can snap his fingers and bury information that would otherwise hold him accountable for illegal and corrupt purposes. You wonder why people tune out and just take care of me and thee. Its all you have when the powerful can simply bury, obfuscate, lie, corrupt and walk away scott free.
Hurry up on the full House vote to hold Stevie in contempt. Maybe then I can experience at least one small moment of relief. And feel a sense of balance return.
The sun is out, but its a bit cold here in NY-21. Time to take the camera out and go for a walk. Hopefully I can find in nature what I cant in our justice system.
