I definitely think there is a similar dynamic at play.

However, here's my thought, when people ask me if I believe in god: well, how do you define it? Old white guy with a long beard up in the sky, puppet-mastering every move?

Or, rather, a convenient, unifying word to refer to the mystery and magic of our world and universe? To our ethical obligations to all sentient beings and living things on this planet to treat them as we would be treated? The connection that exists between all living things?

I believe in non-material forces and principles, just not the god of so many theologies who is more a particularized, personal father figure - at times kindly, at times angry and punitive.

I do not believe in eternal life for people and I think that is a dirty rotten promise. To me, it more or less destroys the main characteristic we have as a human, that we know we are mortal. The idea that we will live on after death, I think, actually cheapens life. Plus it is the biggest of lies, which if people believe that, they can be made to believe anything. I was raised in the Methodist church. But the emphasis was on ethics and kindness and selflessness. I don’t see much of that religion anymore. However, the hypocrisy of some of the elders came out when the schools racially integrated. Seems those people have taken over organized religion

Only cuz Ronald Reagan & the right-wing media machine made liberal out to be a dirty word. Unfortunately, we let the right run us away from the word, & they've been defining us better than we ourselves have, ever since. Tax-and-spend democrats, gun-hating liberals, socialists, baby-killers. It's like we don't believe in marketing, while they have an entire media machine spewing their crap, totally unchallenged.

thanks.

The Rs have no damn shame, no morals, no problem lying or committing any/all of the 7 deadly "sins"...which is how they do it, in my opinion.

Since Rush made the word liberal toxic they / we started calling liberals progressives. Kinda sucks.
