The race between Democrat Terry McAuliffe and Republican Glenn Youngkin for governor of Virginia has narrowed to a tie just two weeks ahead of Election Day, according to a new poll.
A Monmounth University survey released Wednesday showed both candidates with 46% support as Youngkin, the former co-CEO of the Carlyle Group Inc., has cut into McAuliffes once-sizable lead by drawing away independent voters and women.
Independent voters have flipped their support from McAuliffe to Youngkin, with 48% now supporting the Republican and 39% the Democrat. A month ago the advantage was reversed, 37% to 46%.

(92,325 posts)polling in general has had a difficult time, and some of that is due to declining participation rates
Some of that is because of all the spoofing and spam calls that occur
Just a note about Monmouth as an example, Monmouth showed a narrowing race in the 2017 last governors race with their final poll showing Northampton ahead by a single point. The actual election result was Northampton winning by 9 points.
It is all about turnout

(94,679 posts)...and polling in aggregate has shown this is a close race.
What I've never understood is why people here seem to disregard polling only when it proposes bad news....
