Texas Lt. guv's first voter fraud bounty blows up in his face

Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick has paid his first voter fraud bounty. It went to an unexpected recipient

...instead of going to an informant who smoked out fraud by Democrats, Patrick’s five-figure payout went to a progressive poll worker in Pennsylvania whose tip led to a single conviction of illegal voting by a registered Republican.

The unexpected outcome reveals the political dangers of cash bounties. With few strings attached, and more cases of alleged GOP voting fraud still in Pennsylvania courts, Patrick may be asked to shell out even more cash to his opponents.

This case also undercuts unsubstantiated GOP concerns that widespread voter fraud helped hand the White House to Joe Biden, political experts said. In Pennsylvania, a state that was central in Trump’s attempts to overthrow the election, around five cases of voter fraud from last year’s election have been prosecuted, according to The Philadelphia Inquirer — four involved Republicans.

This week, Frank deposited $25,000 of Patrick’s campaign cash into his bank account.

“It’s my belief that they were trying to get cases of Democrats doing voter fraud. And that just wasn’t the case,” Frank said. “This kind of blew up in their face.”

I do wonder exactly where this pile of cash that Patrick is directing is coming from?

State coffers? Better not.

Patrick's own pocket? Very doubtful.

Probably one of the myriad billionaire GOP assholes happy to toss away a few bucks.

Patrick said that anyone who provides information that leads to a conviction will receive at least $25,000. The money will come from Patrick’s campaign fund, according to spokesperson Sherry Sylvester.

This type of outcome is why I am still confident that no matter how much hokum the GQP tries with our elections, the combination of huge turnout and court challenges will undo much of their chicanery.

And also some doubt as to whether Patrick would make good on the payment.

Rachel Maddow revisits the bounties offered by Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick for cases of voter fraud, which most people assumed was just a stunt, and talks with Eric Frank, a Pennsylvania poll worker whose report of a Trump voter trying to vote twice led to a voter fraud conviction, and who has now received a check for $25,000 from Patrick's campaign. Aired on 10/21/2021.

PS someone still owes Pennsylvania a very, very handsome reward.
