Just a rant on not being able to trust corporation, products, politicians and people in general

My fellow Americans really surprise me and many shock me - not sure what happened over the decades about being a good neighbor - too much money spent on lies, fraud, scamming, and doing in others by stealing, conning, and generally being unkind and mean -

not sure what God they believe in but it isn't the one I believe in - sorry for the rant - too many lying ads both political and general about everything - hard to trust corporations, products, and politicians

About a week ago some Unknown citizen from our very white, very Republican neighborhood posted notes on all of the mailboxes in the area promoting a neighborhood, pot luck, get together. Frankly, I was blown away. We have been here for about two years now in this Norman Rockwell neighborhood and so far, only two people have even talked to us. I figured it was because my license plate says "OCCUPI" and our other stickers are pretty much pro Obama and I may still be right, but...the night of the potluck, when it didn't seem to be going to happen, one of the neighbors rang my bell and asked me if this was a joke. Some other neighbors came out and I told them that I had made enough Broccoli salad for about 20. The other neighbors told me that they had large quantities of meatballs, etc. I told them that I had a folding table and some extra folding chairs and that even if we had been pranked, we should just go ahead and do it anyway.

Bottom line, by the time I got my table and my food out, the people whose idea this was showed up and started setting up. In the end, everyone who showed up was so excited at being able to actually meet their neighbors that the neighborhood is planning another get together before X-mas. Politics were not discussed but the feeling I got was that everyone who showed up was so happy to actually meet the folks that live around them that what happened was bigger than politics. People learned who their neighbors were, people offered to help each other, it was incredible.

We did this kind of thing all the time in downtown San Jose but this was a first for us in suburban Arizona? I hope this is a trend!

BTW, I asked the person who started this what they were thinking. She told me that she was tired of living around folks that don't talk to each other and just decided to do it.

Pretty cool huh?
