Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ) was confronted by a self-described constituent as she and Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) walked through an airport. In a video posted to Twitter on Monday by Peoples Watch, the unidentified woman pressed Sinema on her opposition to large portions of President Joe Bidens Build Back Better in agenda. Sinema has maddened many of her fellow Democrats by refusing to publicly state what she wants, and instead had been negotiating directly with the White House.
Im from Tucson, Arizona, said the woman. And Im wonderingI know youve met with dozens of lobbyists
Please dont touch me, interrupted Sinema, who otherwise ignored her and continued to speak with Scott throughout the encounter.
I did not touch you, replied the woman. I know youre meeting with dozens of lobbyists and talking with corporate donors about the package. How many times will you meet with constituents? How many times have you met with constituents in negotiating Build Back Better?
Sinema can be heard telling Scott, Sorry about this.
Scott laughed and replied that its par for the course.
The woman continued on. Why wont you meet with my family and your constituents? I can have them meet you next week. Ever single year in Arizona, its getting hotter and hotter. Were breaking records
She added, People are suffering. Your constituents are suffering. What are you going to do about climate change?
The woman implored Sinema, Please answer me, Senator.

The way she treated her constituent is shameful. It's hard to believe she used to be a progressive.

What did she think being a senator was going to be about? She asked people for their vote and now those voters are asking her for answers. It is part of the job.

(6,806 posts)Sinema acts like a typical republican here. Ignores the constituent. Makes no attempt to address continent's concerns. This airport walk is like that form letter you get from a congressional Republican six weeks after you write to them. In fact, it's worst, it doesn't even acknowledge the constituent by name.

Makes sense considering the volatile nature of things in society lately.
Just saying.

McConnell is puppet-mastering them both.
This is disgusting and more proof that the truth about US as a corrupt, dysfunctional, waning state is more apparent than ever.

(46,051 posts)I know nothing about him. I've never been in the presence of one of my Senators, although Barbara Boxer was in the building where I worked one day. On a different floor, and I only heard about it afterward.
I figured most of them are good at pretending to care.
Not Timmy. He put up a post the other day asking for what we were reading. It was national book month the other day or something. A ton of liberals descended on his Facebook page, including me. There were a lot reading things like 1984 and Midnight in Washington. I recommended Tim read It Can't Happen Here. I'm sure he got right on it.

(288 posts)Years ago, when Claiborne Pell (Democrat) was one of the senators for Rhode Island, he would fly down to Washington DC and while waiting for his flight he would sit in area with all other passengers. He had no problem with his constituents speaking with him. Understand that Sen. Pell was a very wealthy man. He grew up with wealth. He was not a big back-slapping politician. He was a real patrician, but he was courteous and would listen patiently to his constituents (people like me).
Similarly, I have encountered Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D Rhode Island) and have found him accessible. He will listen to his constituents and offer useful comments back. I have had similar encounters with Senator Jack Reed (D Rhode Island) and Representative jim Langevin (D Rhode Island). Both listened courteously and were able to offer intelligent and useful comments. These are things that good politicians do. It is their job to listen to their constituents. They don't have to agree with the comments, but they should listen.
Senator Sinema are you listening?

Duckworth is accessible, too. I have seen her at several events. She is always close up for her constituents.
We are soooo lucky.
We have these two, and a great governor.

Definitely not a person prone to gregarious public interaction. More like a person the conservatives entitled "elitist". We have grown away from that, grateful I am, into a much more proletarian leaning party. This is the best path for all, representing the most people's interests.

This "Senator" had better not be re-elected. She's too wrapped up in herself to be a servant to the people. She'd fit right in with the Trump family though.
