So Laundrie's mother drove his Mustang back to their home

in the middle of the night - she was wearing a baseball cap.
https://www.heraldtribune.com/story/news/2021/10/25/north-port-police-mistook-roberta-laundrie-mother-brian-laundrie-amid-disappearance/8545844002/

The North Port Police Department says officers mistook Brian Laundrie for his mother the week that he disappeared.

North Port Police Department spokesman Josh Taylor said Monday night that in the early days of the case, as officers surveilled the Laundrie home, they thought they saw Brian Laundrie return in the family Mustang on Sept. 15.

It was actually his mother, Roberta Laundrie, in a baseball cap.

“We thought it was with him,” Taylor said. “But it was her wearing a baseball cap, and they have a very similar build.”

They've identified his remains, have they not?

Of perhaps more significance is the mounting evidence that (in my opinion) the family was obviously attempting to interfere with investigators from the beginning. I hope, if so, that they are vigorously prosecuted.

The forensic pathologists examining the remains were not the same people who mistook the mom for Laundrie.
And, those stakeout cops weren't examining the remains.
It's likely the pathologists work for the city or county & not the cops, so not even the same organization.
I think you're out over your skis on this.

So, Brian Laundrie drove the car to the reserve to hike. They found the car, but left it there the first day in case he came back. Then the second day they went and got it. Why would they do that unless they knew he wasn't going back to the car?

I fully expect the Laundries to get away with covering things up and aiding their son. I've become pretty cynical about the justice system.

It's as if they were trying to throw every roadblock possible into the investigation.

I love my kids with all my heart, but if one of them went on an extended trip with another person, and then came home with that person's vehicle, but without the person, I'd be demanding answers.

Maybe I'm just weird, but I raised my kids to know that they were going to be held accountable for their actions. I'll love them no matter what, but if I found out one was a monster, I would have to do the right thing.

At minimum, they know details they aren't sharing and they most certainly assisted the kid on some way or another, directly or indirectly. I'm just no so sure that will ever be proven now.
What it doesn't do is make a visual identification by the police somehow invalidate a forensic examination of the identity of the remains that were found.

With this weird story, I wouldn't put it past them. I think they should get from both parents to compare to the remains as a back up.

know who their dentist was
Convince that dentist to put their son's name on the records from the actual deceased.

I don't think they are sophisticated enough criminals to pull that off.

Maybe if there's some sort of confession in that notebook that they supposedly found, I'll be more convinced.

One of the things that makes me have doubts is how quickly the "news" was divulged that the bones were his. I mean, wasn't it the very next day after we were told the bones were found? They said it was based on dental records. When have we ever gotten answers so quickly? It seems like it usually takes weeks, and even months.

We (appropriately) criticize wacky conspiracy theories on the right, then "we" post stuff like this.

We really should have higher standards than the other side. Alas, sometimes that's not the case.

Something very odd about this story.

How in the world could they mistake her for him? She has breasts, hips, hair, no beard, and a completely different posture. These North Port cops sound like dunces.
