Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) on Wednesday said he doesnt like the idea of targeting only the 700 wealthiest Americans to pay for a big chunk of the Democrats' spending package, raising doubts over a newly proposed tax on billionaires.
I dont like it. I dont like the connotation that were targeting different people, Manchin told reporters when asked about the new tax proposal sponsored by Senate Finance Committee Chairman Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) that would hit billionaires and people who earned $100 million or more in three consecutive years.
Manchin argued that the ultra-wealthy bring a lot of jobs, invest a lot of money and give a lot to philanthropic pursuits.
I believe everyones going to pay. I believe that we will end up where everyone must participate, he said.

(3,030 posts)apparently there's a legit argument it's not constitutional (no idea why but that's what even some Dems say), and I don't want to have to depend on 6 Republican justices to uphold it.
Just raise the rates and make Sinema vote against it. If she does and it fails look for plan B.

Maybe that misguided person would go along better if the tax was said to be on corporations. Like depersonalize big business. I doubt it, but just a thought.

sabotage the bill. He agrees with one
thing she disagrees with it and vice-versa at the very last minute.
They intend to water down the bill to
nothing. Good luck with getting the Progressives to vote for it.
