Only essential shops like supermarkets and pharmacies are allowed to open in the capital, while food outlets are only providing takeaways.

Authorities have also given workers across Russia nine days off from Saturday in a bid to curb infections.

Russia has reported a record 1,159 deaths from Covid in the past 24 hours.

The official data also reveals 40,096 new infections in 85 regions of Russia - another record. Russia's last major lockdown was in May-June 2020.

Russia's overall Covid death toll in the pandemic is officially more than 230,000, the highest in Europe and one of the highest in the world.

St. Petersburg registered 2,281 coronavirus cases on Friday, October 1 — the highest daily increase since January 2021. The city also recorded 55 deaths due to COVID-19 and 450 hospitalizations. The day before, St. Petersburg Governor Alexander Beglov warned that “If we don't obtain collective immunity, [additional] restrictions will have to be introduced.” According to medical workers, local coronavirus hospitals are already feeling overwhelmed. Meanwhile, the Russian Health Ministry has raised the city’s vaccination target to 3.5 million people. But if vaccination continues at its current rate, this goal won’t be met until the end of next summer.

4. The vaccine formula should be given to the rest of the world for humanitarian purposes

Haven't the pharmaceutical companies made enough profits already?

Why do they need to keep making more money while people are dying? Just share the formula so foreign countries can make their own vaccines. That's all the Big Pharma need to do. It won't cost them anything.

Many people refuse to vaccinate. But absence of vaccines is not an issue here.

They laid a path to create distrust in government through propaganda that creates a misinformed, uneducable populace, and thereby cripple the ability to respond to crises.

Unnecessary Covid Death in countries controlled by Rightists is the way it is now; it's the way it will be for years. The sane nations will have to isolate themselves from the unsane.
