This early read on whether workers will actually quit their jobs over mandates comes as more employers are requiring shots. One-quarter of workers surveyed by KFF in October said their employer has required them to get vaccinated, up from 9 percent in June and 19 percent last month.
President Joe Biden announced in September a mandate for businesses with 100 or more employees to ensure workers are vaccinated against Covid-19 or tested weekly for the virus. The mandate, which is currently still under review, is estimated to cover roughly two-thirds of the private sector workforce once its implemented. The Kaiser survey only asked whether people have quit over a vaccine requirement, not a vaccine requirement with a testing option.
More than one-third of unvaccinated workers said they would quit rather than comply with a vaccine or testing mandate, the Kaiser survey shows, a share that jumps to 72 percent if no testing option is offered. But because the nationwide mandate has yet to be officially implemented by the Labor Department, it remains to be seen what share of workers will quit when a broader swath of the U.S. workforce is covered.

(7,624 posts)The careful language from KFF:
Five percent of unvaccinated adults say they have left a job due to a vaccine mandate, according to a survey released Thursday by the Kaiser Family Foundation.
Do I think vaccine a non-negligible fraction of the population would lie when answering that question? Yes I do.

(11,257 posts)I had assumed that most of the unvaccinated people were hard core antivaxxers, willing to lose their jobs over a bunch of nutty conspiracy theories. This actually dispels that assumption.

(3,707 posts)So, are we to understand that 95% of anti-vax and vac hesitant people would chose vaccination over quitting a job?

(50,278 posts)own body making a supply of antibodies to fight the virus, but if they get sick they'll race to a medical facility to have anti-bodies created in a test tube injected into them to save their lives. You know what might change this around? Medical bills. Publish the medical bills Covid patients receive from hospitals after going home. I imagine more than one anti-vaxer is headed to bankruptcy court. (Plan B - A PSA with Obama telling them whatever they do, do NOT get the vaccine. LOL.)

(4,007 posts)They can go to work somewhere else and put others at risk, or they can be unemployed, or they can hold out as long as they want until they need the money, or they can get sick with Covid and pay med bills on their own dime. I dont care. Businesses will survive and be better for it.

(21,768 posts)If you leave your job because of a vax requirement, that is your choice.
If you leave your job because a co-worker refuses to get vaxxed and you get sick or even die, then you are a victim of that co-worker.
I don't see the controversy here. People should not be allowed to come into your workplace and infect you with a dangerous disease.
This reminds me of when indoor smoking was banned in workplaces. Smokers were outraged and weren't going to put up with it.
But they did.

(19,066 posts)We are an aerospace engineering company that has 1200 people on site at out location. We execute large government contracts, so the mandate pulled no punches for us. We are also short workers/engineers already, retention is a major issue we're trying to address. I expect we will lose no more than 20 engineers, but that number will be felt. But good riddance, this says a lot about their character, do we really want selfish low character people working with us? I don't.

(19,066 posts)So it's 1% that quit their jobs.

(19,066 posts)The headline should have been 'Only 1% of US adults quit jobs over vaccine mandate!'
80% got vaccinated rather than quit, 19% are not quitting or are going to get vaccinated or they work for a small place with no vaccine mandate. Only 1 in 100 adults. But that 1 in 100 will get more press than the other 99 times 50.

(19,066 posts)You wouldn't know it by watching the news though. There's a constant narrative that the media is pushing that this is a 50-50 issue.
Anti Covid vaxxers are a minority that is shrinking in the US. It's less than 1 in 5 people now.

(23,105 posts)But when it comes to lose your job and be unable to get a comparable job because of no vaccination, almost all will fold and quit. Only the most twisted, hated filled idiots will risk their families economic wellbeing. Most will get vaccinated, especially those that also face big increases in insurance premiums or have to pay for their own testing. Those that don't have self identified as being a threat to us. Hope a bunch of them liv in FL because this state doesn't pay unemployment, the system fail (on purpose) and there's a huge class action lawsuit in the courts right now. Let those asses feel the weight of their right wing legislators perfidy for a change, it would be so fitting.
