NEW: I investigated a list of pharmacies that an anti-vaxx org claimed *would* fill Ivermectin prescriptions, no problem.
Turns out, many of them are making their own to sidestep FDA guidanceand to cash in on the unproven COVID treatment.
The Pharmacies Giving Ivermectin To People Bamboozled By Right-Wing Misinformation
Ivermectin isnt approved by federal authorities to treat COVID-19, but thats not stopping people from seeking it out or others from making money off of it.

When you visit the COVID-19 Info page on Austin Compounding Pharmacys website, it tells you in no uncertain terms that taking Ivermectin once a week will decrease your risk of infection and reduce the severity if you do contract COVID-19. There is no evidence that is true.
The Texas pharmacy also has a special order form that lists 10 COVID-19 medications, none of which has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration to treat or prevent the disease. Ivermectin is at the top, followed by hydroxychloroquine (which has been proved to be ineffective against COVID), and a list of non-prescription items to create your own Corona Six Pack. The choices include zinc, melatonin and a pulse oximeter because, according to the form, Oxygen saturation is important.
Ivermectin as a cure for COVID has proved to be a surprisingly durable myth, with people across the country continuing to jump through hoops to get their hands on it, despite warnings from the FDA, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and state pharmacy boards that it does not work on the coronavirus. Humans can take the anti-parasitic drug in pill form, and it is available in large, over-the-counter quantities for livestock.
The medicine has been boosted by big names, including controversial podcaster Joe Rogan and Infowars founder Alex Jones. At least two people have died after taking ivermectin instead of being properly treated for COVID, but some brick-and-mortar pharmacies are risking their reputations and patients safety by continuing to dispense it, filling prescriptions generated by sometimes-shady practices.

(42,568 posts)Some of their customers will have a tragic outcome treating Covid with ivermectin, and there are bound to be family members who, though they were screaming for the right to get ivermectin, will instantly flip to litigious outrage after tragedy strikes. If the pharmacy is not following FDA recommendations, theres nothing protecting them.

(9,074 posts)Their doctorate is PharmD instead of MD.
This was not always the case before 2000. So you may still see pharmacists who do not have the Doctor title.
But a PharmD from accredited pharmacy schools has been implemented for the past 20 years.

(3,862 posts)How are they supposed to know why a Dr. wrote a prescription? Ivermectin is a commonly used drug, if you show up at a pharmacy with a legitimate Dr. issued prescription, the pharmacy should fill it.

(9,074 posts)Source: Just asked my partner who runs a pharmacy system. They look at who's prescribing it, patient files, etc.
They do everything they allowably can to ensure it's a prescription with valid use. If they can't, they won't fill it. The patient will have to go somewhere else.

(3,616 posts)Encourage them to make their own hydroxycloroquine. And to eat apple pectin.

(9,074 posts)Partner is a higher up for the pharmacies of a major hospital system. There is no way on earth they were having this shit.
When patients come with an Ivermectin prescription (because you can always find a doctor), they will check their files to ensure it's being used for valid medical purposes (parasites and a few other things). Otherwise, they won't fill it. And they will check thoroughly.

But if the mechanism is bad medical practice, I have to state my objections...
