Inglewood criticized after 106-0 win over Morningside in football game: 'It was a classless move'
KABC 10 hrs ago
The Inglewood High School football team defeated Morningside High School by a lopsided score of 106-0 Friday night, prompting criticism from the California Interscholastic Federation and others.
Many are wondering why the mercy rule wasn't put into effect or whether student-athletes may have been exposed to increased injury risk.
"It was a classless move," said Brian Collins, Morningside's first-year head coach, the Los Angeles Times reported. "I told them, 'Go play St. John Bosco and Mater Dei.'"
The California Interscholastic Federation Southern Section condemned Inglewood's in-game conduct in statement, saying it "expects that all athletic contests are to be conducted under the strictest code of good sportsmanship. We expect coaches, players, officials, administrators and students to adhere to the Six Pillars of Character - Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring and Citizenship. A score of 106-0 does not represent these ideals.
"The CIF-SS condemns, in the strongest terms, results such as these. It is our expectation that the Inglewood administration will work towards putting in place an action plan so that an event such as this does not repeat itself.

(15,036 posts)many helmed by coaches with integrity and a strong sense of fair play.
It'll be interesting to see what happens on their way to what they hope is a winning season, especially since they've already lost the opportunity to be champions.
As a life-long UCLA Bruin, I can only hope the Inglewood QB, Justyn Martin, who has committed to UCLA for next year, bring his talents but leaves his coaches' lessons behind.

(94,591 posts)Unless Inglewood did something against the rules, that's what the score was. Perhaps Morningside should be playing teams more at its skill level.

(50,559 posts)Where were the referees in all this? You'd think that after a 59-0 first quarter, the umpire would disqualify Inglewood's entire first string and have them play the second-string for the rest of the game.

I play a lot of chess. I prefer to face a player who's at my skill level rather than play someone who's easy to beat.

Once was on a league hockey team and we had a batch that started to hog nearly all the ice time. Just told them not paying for this shit, good luck with your season and walked out.
