(9,074 posts)Just a broad sense based on so much reading.
But his campaign has decided imploding spectacularly is a thing, and the school board stuff has been much more damaging than people give it credit, I think. It's huge locally, but not much discussed in the bubbles. When you get a 42 point shift in who you trust on Education issues, and Education vaults towards the top of priorities for voters, it's not good.
I think things have shifted strongly in Youngkin's direction, but we'll need to see what impact those early voting numbers will have. Could those stave off the challenge?
So while my gut says Democrat by 2%, I am not at all certain about that and will not be surprised if Youngkin manages it. The McAulliffe campaign has just been something else.
If they lose, it will be talked about for years as a massive blunder.

(54,405 posts)It shows Youngkin leading by 1% but with over 6% undecided, and a 59.6% chance of McAuliffe winning over 40.4% chance for Youngkin.
Rated a tossup, though without Youngkin's massive personal funding plus Fox Noise, McAuliffe would be walking away with this. Virginia is certainly not unhappy with Democratic rule in recent years.
Fairfax County REALLY needs to GOTV this time!
For illegal voter intimidation at the polls, denying the vote to Democratic voters wanting to cast their ballots, plus outright election fraud in the counting, I think I'd waive my traditional opposition to the death penalty this once.
Drunken Irishman
(34,857 posts)He's run a very poor campaign and focused entirely too much on Trump and not enough about what he will do if elected. Youngkin might have bad ideas but he's at least got ideas.
We're gonna get beat tomorrow and it's going to really make the media more insufferable than they already are.

McAuliffe was also too much of a throw back to the Clintons in my opinion. Not that THAT is a bad thing, but it is a reminder. I sure wish there had been a younger, vibrant candidate - with as much at stake as there is. (And I'm old myself - just see the writing on the wall.)
May we both be surprised tomorrow!!!! I'll gladly eat a dose of crow.

(5,008 posts)I watched an interview with him yesterday. He did not seem like his upbeat and animated self. I think he knows that Youngkin has momentum. One of the polls has 6% undecided. McAuliffe was governor. Virginians know him. So it seems like the want someone other than McAuliffe. It seems like those undecideds might break for Youngkin. Makes me absolutely ill to think of Youngkin as governor. However, if we dont get a huge turnout and keep independent support it will be hard. 😕
