President Donald Trump had just returned to the White House from his rally at the Ellipse on Jan. 6 when he retired to his private dining room just off the Oval Office, flipped on the massive flat-screen television and took in the show. At the other end of Pennsylvania Avenue, thousands of his supporters were wearing his red caps, waving his blue flags and chanting his name.
Live television news coverage showed the horror accelerating minute by minute after 1:10 p.m., when Trump had called on his followers to march on the U.S. Capitol. The pro-Trump rioters toppled security barricades. They bludgeoned police. They scaled granite walls. And then they smashed windows and doors to breach the hallowed building that has stood for more than two centuries as the seat of American democracy.
The Capitol was under siege and the president, glued to the television, did nothing. For 187 minutes, Trump resisted entreaties to intervene from advisers, allies and his elder daughter, as well as lawmakers under attack. Even as the violence at the Capitol intensified, even after Vice President Mike Pence, his family and hundreds of Congress members and their staffers hid to protect themselves, even after the first two people died and scores of others were assaulted, Trump declined for more than three hours to tell the renegades rioting in his name to stand down and go home.
During the 187 minutes that Trump stood by, harrowing scenes of violence played out in and around the Capitol. Twenty-five minutes into Trumps silence, a news photographer was dragged down a flight of stairs and thrown over a wall. Fifty-two minutes in, a police officer was kicked in the chest and surrounded by a mob. Within the first hour, two rioters died as a result of cardiac events. Sixty-four minutes in, a rioter paraded a Confederate battle flag through the Capitol. Seventy-three minutes in, another police officer was sprayed in the face with chemicals. Seventy-eight minutes in, yet another police officer was assaulted with a flagpole. Eighty-three minutes in, rioters broke into and began looting the House speakers office. Ninety-three minutes in, another news photographer was surrounded, pushed down and robbed of a camera. Ninety-four minutes in, a rioter was shot and killed. One hundred two minutes in, rioters stormed the Senate chamber, stealing papers and posing for photographs around the dais. One hundred sixteen minutes in, a fourth police officer was crushed in a doorway and beaten with his own baton.1
All in the first two hours.

I could not hate him more. Worst person in America, top 10 worst people on Earth.
On edit: Now that I've read through; I'm fucking appalled again. How close he got to pulling it off, how he shut down and was glued to the TV as his plot came apart, how he gave not one shit about anything but himself. And then the GQP Congress let him off the hook.
Justice matters.
(6,933 posts)This same day Capitol police knew of a strong potential for violence against Congress.
Since he was named acting Sec. Def on November 9 it looks like he was put in there to cause a stand down if that is what Trump wanted.
Thats EXACTLY why he was put there. When doofus started firing top Pentagon people soon after the election, it was the first thing I thought of - hes preparing some kind of coup and changing the command structure so he has control of the military to deploy against Americans.

(6,933 posts)Email From Trump Team Lawyer John Eastman Further Proves Conspiracy to Overturn Election Results
Glenn Kirschner
John Eastman is the Trump team lawyer who authored and attempted to implement a 6-point plan to deprive Joe Biden of his election win. New reporting shows that Eastman sent an email to an aide to Vice President Mike Pence on January 6 WHILE THE CAPITOL WAS BEING ATTACKED BY TRUMPS' SUPPORTERS, blaming Pence for the attack because he did not block Joe Biden's win. This email directly contradicts Eastman's own attempts to explain away his memo.
The disclosure of this email shows how valuable the documents, call records, visitor logs, etc., that are maintained by the National Archives will become to the House select committees investigation AND to the Department of Justice.
Nixon never attempted to conspire to violently overturn the results of a Constitutional election!

(22,264 posts)over that thousand years. One group firmly believed the thousand years of chaos and destruction would come before Christ's return, one group believed Christ would return first and trigger the thousand years.
There was a third group which did not really care.
Following the first group, it would seem that the AntiChrist comes first, triggers the thousand years then Christ would return. In this scenario we have had our thousand years and TFG is the personification of Christ returned.
In the second belief, TFG is actually Christ and we can look forward to another thousand years of chaos.
One of the groups split off, bought an old Methodist church building and started a new congregation.
I don't know which one was which since this was when I was in my teens, but the ones that stayed in the original location had to import a preacher from Louisville because there were not that many who believed the way THEY did.

(81,320 posts)I do find myself wondering about trump being the antiChrist. I vaguely remember reading about Jeane Dixon or some such famous psychic warning about an antiChrist - he is alive now and I think the added comment was about him having blond hair. But it was quite awhile ago - back in the mid-late 60s.
Back then, for some reason, I was fascinated by Jeane Dixon.

I was one of those who saw GW as the anti-christ til TFG came on stage. I've changed my mind. Now I figure there are antichrists, plural. Each one paves the way for the next one to do a bit more dirtier work. But gods help us if there's one worse than TFG. I simply couldn't imagine, back in the day of GW, of someone like Trump. You can imagine where my lack of imagination is today. I guess today's youngsters, with their familiarity of slice and dice horror movies might better be prepared than this oldster with the love of Godzilla in her heart.

KUDOS TO WAPO for this investigation and reporting! We just KNOW Congress is using this investigation, as well as Bobs Costa and Woodward book "Peril" for THEIR investigation!
Got to get this out as much as possible. No matter how it "lands," since, I'm reading on DU that 30% of Rs now believe in using violence to get theier way - it's SO important to do the right thing, make the historical record. SOME DAY reason "may" again prevail here.

187 minutes. Who was injured and/or died in that time? I hope they line it out. Back to reading.

(19,201 posts)Those were not Trump's supporters, those were FBI Agents in league with AntiFa members who stormed the Capitol and caused all that damage. 🙄
Trump knew all of his true supporters had packed up and gone home, and then the FBI Agents, along with AntiFa rioters - wearing the very same clothes and carrying the exact same Trump flags - stormed the Capitol.
Well, there was one true Trump supporter - Ashley Babbit - who was fooled by the FBI Agents and AntiFa, and they gunned her down in a hail of bullets just because she was innocently watching everything unfold, after the FBI carried her into the Capitol against her wishes. 🙄
So that's the real truth of what happened, if we're supposed to believe Trump and his republican cult. 😉

I think that most of them were Trump supporters hell bent on supporting the bozo that promised to march with them. But, I think that most them were used as cover for a few of them who knew what was really going on. How do you sort that out? Yes, they supported Trump, but did they think they were doing a coup on the Congress? I dunno. They are all lucky, well except a few, they weren't ALL shot down for what they did. Other countries would have sprayed them with automatic fire and been done with that.
Timing is everything. I think the report on 1/6 will be ready to support Midterms. I am not against Garland; we don't know the strategy. And, I'm not sad that every last shriveled ass one of those idiots isn't languishing in jail. They have a lot to think about. If I were one of them, I wouldn't be supporting Trump anymore.
