6. Thomas hasn't been that vocal on the court since Scalia died, it is still unusual for him

I'm not sure what's gotten into him lately. I doubt anything good will come of it, though.

and the 2nd amendment. It's not surprising he's involved in the discussion.

we're interrupting female judges questions so Justice Roberts changed the way oral arguments were conducted
Under the new rules Justice Thomas has found his voice. There was an article about it in the Times today.

The Chief Justice decided that each justice would have their allotted time for questions/discussions that could not be interrupted by any of the others, since a more relaxed approach wasn't going to work at all on a conference phone call with 9 judges and at least 2 attorneys.

Thomas started asking questions then. His explanation was that he believed that the usual more 'free flowing' approach in court was too uncivil to bother with, but the phone rules had fixed that.

Although he never asked many questions, Thomas has long churned out more written words than the others, attaching his own concurring opinions or dissents to a whole bunch of cases.

Thomas said nothing either time. My sense at the time was that he was bored.

Scalia on the other hand was an out and out jerk. Interrupting the attorneys whose case he didn't support--he'd obviously made up his mind and no argument was going to sway him on either occasion. Lots of snark, lots of sarcasm, seemed to enjoy humiliating someone who had too much self discipline and respect for decorum to respond.

I had no use for either of them.

October 23rd, 1991. I'm surprised no media covered it. He's got a real chance to break the record of 36 years.

interrupted by the men. The unexpected is it then freed up Thomas to speak without being interrupted and he has.
