On Saturday, a line of voters stretched around the corner at Beatley Library in Alexandria as the Virginia governor's race remained tight in the polls.
Outside the Beatley Library off Duke Street in Alexandria, a line of dozens of people stretched around the corner around lunchtime.
In total, Alexandria Registrar Angela Turner said that over 15,000 people had cast early ballots as of Saturday morning.
That number was almost four times higher than the amount of early voters during the last Virginia gubernatorial race in 2017, although early voters were required to provide an excuse for doing so back then. Last year, the rule was changed to allow for no-excuse absentee and early voting.
In Fairfax County, election officials reported that over 150,000 people had voted early this year, which equated to around 20% turnout in the area.

(182,829 posts)That and the cities (we separate them from counties) are were we pull in votes. Looks to be close but I have a bad feeling about this one.

(12,278 posts)I don't know if that includes mail in ballots. A lot of blue area surges. I still have a feeling TM will pull it out although there are tons of articles and polling that says otherwise.

(102,292 posts)Honestly, DU is hard to read today (and yesterday). I'm not saying posters don't have a right to start threads on the reported "bad news," but it has been overwhelming. I'm starting to wonder if there is not a concerted MSM push to depress turnout with some of this. sigh...

(7,839 posts)I do not take his as a good sign as the media do breathlessly pointing out the enthusiasm
long voting lines are evidence there is not enough places to vote, when such places can so easily be provided.
Voter suppression also takes the form of frustrating voters before they reach the ballot box.

(15,823 posts)The rules are made by the party and leaders. Im not sure that republicans even have much say. Some states thankfully dont have republicans mucking things up.
