Tomorrow is election day in Virginia.
If McAuliffe (D) is elected governor, Republicans will scream it was rigged and stolen.
If Youngkin (R) is elected governor, Republicans will claim that Trump's backing got him elected.
Either way, my question is what effect, if any, will Republican "poll watchers" have on the outcome?
Republicans have spent a few years training their "poll watchers." The reality is that they're there to intimidate, not watch. Will some of them get arrested for being overly aggressive? It depends which town or county they're in.
But make no mistake about it. Republican "poll watchers" are there to intimidate (Democratic) voters. How do they know who's a Dem? Well, these "watchers" consider a persons color to be a good indicator.
The last time McAuliffe was elected governor, black women's votes put him over the top. He can't win a majority of the white vote. So take a guess as to who will be the major target of the "poll watchers."
Call these "watchers" whatever you want to. But I call them thugs/fascists/Nazis and enemies of democracy. This shit has got to stop, or be stopped. It's past time the rat fuckers of the Republican Party were made to answer for every single act they've taken to destroy America.

(15,041 posts)Given today's madness, most voters are set in concrete as to their choice. I'm not sure that Manchin/Sinema would have any effect on the VA election.

(15,238 posts)Other than anger a voter to the degree they cannot hold the pencil long enough to cast their ballot simply will not happen. If approached I would gleefully cast my vote show them and insert the vote to be tabulated. Challenging voters on a partisan whim does not appear to me to be a healthy activity.

(15,041 posts)The "poll watchers" are there to confront people.
It's virtually impossible to estimate how many people don't go to the polls because they know "poll watchers" will be there to intimidate them.
Who knows how many Dems don't vote because they don't want to confront these "poll watcher" swine.
My guess is that Republican "poll watcher training" teaches that most people, when confronted for any reason, will back off, or not show up. Think about that. They're being trained to make people afraid to show up at the polls. Or, if they do, to make them worry about their own safety.
Someone really needs to explain to me the difference between Republican tactics and those the Nazis used to come to power. Of course, most "poll watchers" would never consider themselves to be Nazis. But then, most "poll watchers" are morons who really need to get a life.

(1,396 posts)They set up their booths outside the line where a person can't talk to voters. They always come with disinformation flyers, hate speech, yell loudly if you'd like to see a sample ballot, and seem gleeful to be pretending to be keeping an eye on everyone, like they're the protectors of freedom, LOL!
