Why would he give up that kind of wealth and privilege to serve as FBI Director for twelve years and DO NOTHING in that time?

But for different reasons. Trumpers think Wray didn't do enough to protect Trump from impeachment and "the deep state witch hunt" (while overlooking the fact that Trump nominated Wray to begin with).

In the meantime, there is plenty of evidence that Wray's actions have had the actual outcome of shielding the former guy from scrutiny.

His leadership of the FBI has been questionable at best.
We need someone there who we can fully trust to do the right thing all the time.
No one appointed by Trump could ever meet that requirement.
