When Will Pelosi And Schumer Release Their Members To The Media To Sell Their Agenda? After President Biden was elected, most of what the public heard from the mainstream media about Build Back Better was the $1.5T and $3.5T price tag on his administration's aggressive agenda.
The public never hears or reads much about what is actually in the Build Back Better and Infrastructure bills, except to repeat the costs over and over again. Almost without exception, the MSM never outlines how the bills will help the working class and families. Why?
This is a failure on two fronts!
1. Mainstream media seems to only focus on the horse race between political parties and two members of the Democratic Senate (Sinema and Manchin) that are holding up passing the legislation, instead of laying out in layman terms what's in the plans that will help most of America and not just the wealthy.
2. Congressional Democrats are not going on television, radio, podcasts, streaming services, and social media discussing all that's in these very good programs which will help most of America if they are passed.
Putting the same two or three Democratic politicians on television during the Sunday shows is not enough.

(81,320 posts)Good grief and gallstones!!!
I just cant understand it!!!
Youd think a party as big and long-established as the Democratic Party would finally get this, and load up on George Lakoff-style experts on STRATEGIC MESSAGING!!!
It frustrates me so intensely that sometimes I want to SCREAM!!!!!
And DAMMIT, they have to stop the lets be nice crap!!!!! The answer is: well play nice as soon as YOU Republicans do!
A fair fight is NOT fair unless BOTH sides play fair. When one side lies and cheats and manipulates and plays mean and nasty and always tries to put its thumb on the scale to win, while we play nice and above board and dont think more shrewdly and deviously, WE will get our asses handed to us again and again.
If the rules of the game are followed by one side but ignored and defied by the other side, then any presumption of fairness goes right out the window.
And frankly, I dont want to play fair anymore.

(86,647 posts)#1 and #2 are rooted in the same problem, the media refuse to do their job in making sure the politicians have the opportunity to make the case for the Bill as well as fail to make sure that they explain the Bill too. I hate the "sell" terminology being used as if it's a matter of us buying something we may or may not need.
This is life and death for our species and the other species we are taking with us.
Another complaint I have with media coverage is this BS about "saving the planet". We are not saving the planet, we are trying to save ourselves from ourselves and that is why this is so hard to get people to see. Too many are conditioned to see that looking up from their preferred feed on their personal screen is too inconvenient to contemplate let alone the message of the concept. And to accept that we humans are not some divine species that is above all others is against a number of religions, apparently.

(401 posts)With the cuts being negotiated, no one knew exactly what was/is going to be in the final bill.
Not delivering is bad ...
Promising and not delivering is fatal.
Probably should gone with the lower number, created the bill, and spread the word.
Half a loaf is better than no loaf.
Get the benefits out there and then dare the Rs to eliminate them.
I blame the progressive caucus for this ... in a world with unlimited funding, their ideas are awesome.
They need to realize that their ideas are going to be a hard sell in many parts of the country.

Media Bias Fact Check

Overall, we rate Crooks and Liars strongly Left Biased based on story selection and editorial positions that almost always favor Liberal causes. We also rate them Mostly Factual in reporting due to reasonable sourcing and fact check record. However, due to the use of sensational headlines and loaded wording, as well as not strictly adhering to the consensus of science with GMOs, we cannot rate them High for factual reporting.

(8,090 posts)and his failure to use the bully pulpit. We let Republicans define Obamacare and it fucking killed us in 2010. We're now seeing it again on pretty much every issue -- the pandemic, Build Back Better, CRT, "socialism," you name it. 2022 will be like 2010 if this party doesn't get its messaging act together!

(12,660 posts)Who want to maintain the corporate status quo. So cynicism is pushed - both-siderism - because Truth has a painfully liberal bias, and demands progress, both of which upset profits and status quo.
"Reporters" perform and push to gain both unquestioning access and sound bytes because that makes their job easier. And makes their editors and producers happy, because those two actions cynically play into the propoganda loop that, again, supports a status quo narrative. Hard work and real journalism is very complex and challenging to the status quo, and old school journalists are pushed aside for news readers and opinion reporters to save time and money for the businesses that provide "News Reporting" to the public.
Which means if anyone wants any real news or Journalism 200 level reporting and analysis, they have to do their own research.
Democrats have had a public relations/press disadvantage since the early 1980's, and that disadvantage has increased with the advent and monitization of cable news, info-tainment, and social media.
Just my observation, of course.

(15,228 posts)Republicans communicate well with the Republican base because there's not much of a gap between their bumper-sticker slogans and the depths of any policies (to the extent they even have policies) they have. Or they're just lying about their policies, and figure they can get away with it.
I'm not sure how possible it is to communicate serious, real policy that appeals to the good in people when that has to compete with spoon-fed red meat.

Plus they dont have the right wing media echo chamber the GOP does. Not sure how we match that.
