Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger had no idea then-President Donald Trumps infamous phone call demanding that he find votes for him after the election was being recorded, Raffensperger said Sunday.
Raffenspergers staff told him there was a tape of the call after Trump lied about it in a tweet, he told Chuck Todd on NBCs Meet the Press.
Trump claimed the call proved that Raffensperger didnt have a clue about election issues. In fact, Raffensperger explained to the president that all claims had been investigated and rejected for lack of evidence.

The recording released to the press became one of most damaging to Trump and his baseless claims of a rigged election. Rather than pushing Raffensperger to seek evidence of possible wrongdoing, Trump directed him to find enough votes to transform his defeat into a victory.

(88 posts)I seem to recall that the GA Sec of State saying in an interview that he knew there would be a possiblity that trump would use his twitter account to discredit him. So he had the coversation recorded. He also said that he would release the tape only under the condition that trump did not go back and lie to the public on twitter with the intent to discredit him (assuming the public would take that lying sack of crap trump's word over his). The recording served to cover his butt and as proof of what trump said.

(8,012 posts)as long as one person gives consent. Trump obviously didn't know. If Raffensberger didn't know, was the recording legal or illegal?
Is this going to be how they make it impossible to indict trump?

(8,012 posts)only one person in the conversation has to consent. Hopefully, it was Ryan Germany.

(3,358 posts)Even if it's the individual doing the recording who consents, it's still legal. Given the number of people on that call, it's not too out-of-the-ordinary to believe one (or more) recorded the conversation.
But given the nature of what Trump had been saying about the GA elections to date, I find it incredible that any one person would *not* record the call. I'd think doing so an almost defacto requirement when speaking to Trump.
