Though I must admit, I almost never use cash anymore; it is a big time waster. I get annoyed when I see somebody in the front of the line using cash.

(12,480 posts)Because it makes it easier to budget.
The bills and rent get paid with cash converted to a money order.
However I get my wallet out and pull out my best guesstimate cost for the things I am buying
I do this to make paying by cash quicker for others in line.
Also people with cards can take longer than cash payers,
if they use thier card, and the card didnt read for various reasons,or the purchase goes past the money that's on the card so they have to pull out cash to cover the cost or they have to remove items so they can afford the cost.

(796 posts)I get annoyed and impatient when someone buys a candy bar for 75¢ and uses a credit card. Or $1.49 package of kleenex. For anything less than $10 or $20 I always pay with cash.
No, I dont want to evaluate your service or rate your employees. I just want to buy what youre selling and be left alone.
Also, yes I bought something from you, and, no, I dont want to receive emails from you every day.

(12,164 posts)that forward to your real email address (which you never give out to businesses). That way, when they start spamming you (or get hacked), you can just delete that disposable address.
I have created hundreds of these with a Spamex account. There are other services, which may or may not be better. I just use Spamex because Ive had an account with them for years.
I still get too much crap in my inbox, but this strategy does make it easier to control.

(102,343 posts)Funny, I always thought US Treasury controlled the only legal tender, but now that more and more stores are not accepting cash (something I thought was illegal), it is only a matter of time.
Not all change is good. Not all those who want to slow down the rate of change and consider the consequences are "obstinant old Foggies."

(4,758 posts)[A]ll United States money as identified above are a valid and legal offer of payment for debts when tendered to a creditor. There is, however, no Federal statute mandating that a private business, a person or an organization must accept currency or coins as for payment for goods and/or services.

Paying With Cash? Retailers Must Take Your Dollars in These States
.
In recent years, left-leaning leaders in cities such as New York, Philadelphia and San Francisco, as well as in the state of New Jersey, have enacted similar laws to protect unbanked customers who rely on cash. Massachusetts has required businesses to accept cash since 1978.
The idea gained traction this year, after public health measures and scattered coin shortages made it more difficult for some consumers to make cash purchases in 2020. Republican lawmakers in Idaho, Mississippi and North Dakota proposed bills that would require shops and restaurants to accept cash, and Washington, D.C.s City Council voted on a cash transaction bill.
While the bills in Democratic-controlled Colorado and Washington, D.C., passed, the red state proposals did not. Many Republicans opposed the bills, siding with business groups that argue retailers should be free to choose how to serve their customers.

No, I don't want to rate the rating thing that rates the process of making an appointment.
I have confirmed three times that I will be there for my appointment. I will effing be there!
No, I don't want to give you my email. Because you are my damn HAIRDRESSER and you don't need to email me.

(1,945 posts)I get this kind of stuff now from almost every appointment I go to! Primary dr, chiropractor, eye dr, massage therapist, dog groomer, etc etc! Please rate us how many stars? So, ok I give them some stars. But that's not enough, then they want to go leave a review on yelp or facebook and so on! Give me a break, just do your job properly, I'll pay you and leave me alone!!
Also with the confirming appointments as you said. Once I don't mind as a reminder, but it's always several times.
Ironically, my hair guy is the one that doesn't do it. We've been 'together' for about 40yrs now, so he sends me a text the day before--'See you tomorrow at 10?' and I send back a and we're good. No reviews or stars, lol.

(8,923 posts)Last count I had over 600+ accounts.
The majority are for Job Placement accounts, so I find those worth keeping.
I also have apps from Medical, Financial and other such necessities.
But I refuse to continue to create accounts for stores or services, just because I want to buy something.
If I want to transfer money to a store for payment or a family member, there is GPay, Venmo, Zelle, CashApp, ApplePay & Square,
because everyone uses something different.
My family members want to do a conference call so they set up a Zoom call, I refused to create an account with Zoom, because I use Google Meet.
Constantly wanting to create more accounts.
Unless I use it on a monthly basis, I will not create an account.

(50,562 posts)This damned popup comes up at random times while youre using Illustrator or Photoshop asking you if youd recommend their programs to others. One day I was working on a very important color correction when it came up, and I answered it as follows:
From 1 to 10, I put a 1.
In the explanation box, I put I was doing very important work on deadline in your overpriced rental software when you started begging for affirmation. If there was even one program out there that did what yours does, your programs would be off my computer this very day.
(And no, GIMP wont work as a substitute. It cant do CMYK, it cant do duotones and it wont edit IPSC metadata - all things I use regularly.)
I dont see that popup anymore.
Beartracks
(12,821 posts)That seems like an important oversight.
You can't even view your RGB image to see how it would look in CMYK?

(12,438 posts)The price didn't bother me but I decided not to get it because it absolutely requires a Facebook account, which carries far too much baggage on its own.
Earlier this year when so many of us oldsters were scrambling for a vaccine appointment, I created a Walgreen's account because I had to in order to be notified when vaccine scheduling was available. I wound up getting the vaccine at a CVS, without creating an account.
No matter where I go on the internet, I feel I am swatting flies all the time: to agree to cookie policies, to avoid getting notifications in my email, to purchase something as "guest", etc. Walking into a store and paying for something in cash is unexpectedly a delight.

Seriously though, this is the Facebook lesson -- information is valuable, extremely valuable.

It's infuriating.

(16,189 posts)Eighty year old man with not much engagement watches television. Poor eyesight, or he would read books. Technology changes so fast, or maybe he would be set up on Netflix or something.
As his days are precious it troubles me to see the absence of decent television, and whatever he watches, he is subjected to at least 15 minutes of inane advertising in every hour.
As we all are.
To get us to buy more stuff than we need, while the planet burns from overconsumption.
Sympthsical
(9,097 posts)The deals and coupons change every Wednesday, and we do our shopping on Fridays since as it's $5 Friday then. Combined, it's pretty sweet. You can double it up with manufacturer's coupons sometimes. My partner got a thing of Breyer's ice cream for like a buck last week. And since it's all attached to the phone number I type in, I'm still checking out at a normal pace.
It's crazy convenient for me. We usually do our shopping list on my phone while watching TV and save a bunch of money that week.
If people don't like it, that's cool.
