🤔 It's possible that Mayor Dinkins suffered from what Obama suffered for om in the racists really coming near to the fore seeing a black man in office. Rudi stoked racism during Dinkins term.
Bloomberg - idk. He was pretty good on some things.

Giuliani was the last "real" Republican elected, and that was 24 years ago.

(4,044 posts)Sliwa is just a bit older than I. When I was growing up in the 70s, he was frequently in the news being the founder of the Guardian Angels. They were a mixed bag. They brought terror to subway criminals, but also to many casual train riders. They were the tough guys and wanted everyone to know.
For a time, he was an on-air host at the radio station WABC, which was very right-wing.
I love cats.

So, oh yeah I remember The Guardian Angels.
I guess it depended on who you were in some ways.
The GA was a mix of white, black and latinx if I remember correctly. I'm white but by HS I had latinx, and black male friends, and acquaintances (I had friendships with women of those groups earlier late grade school onward), and continued into college (early '70s) - so those guys didn't scare me.
Oh god, yes the "imitable" WABC! Oh, blarg! I remember it too well - Curtis, (rip 😄 ) Rushbo etc. And down the dial was Bob Grant, and Mike Savage. Listening to any of them was like (internally) yelling at the TV.
I also remember back before - Cousin Brucie!
I enjoy watching kittens/cats, puppies, and dog videos.
I also see my on line friends fur buds photos. 👍
