TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) Citing unspecified examples of election fraud, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis on Wednesday pledged to create a law enforcement agency to investigate election crimes as part of a new package of voting laws.
Speaking at an event in West Palm Beach, the Republican governor announced a series of election law proposals for lawmakers to take up during next year's legislative session, including new restrictions on ballot drop boxes and strengthened penalties for ballot harvesting.
DeSantis, who is up for reelection and is eyeing a 2024 presidential run, echoed many talking points on voting problems that have gained traction in the GOP following former President Donald Trump's false claims that his reelection was stolen from him.
The governor has previously praised the 2020 election in Florida as smooth, and there is widespread consensus among election officials and experts that there was no fraud that could have impacted results in the last presidential election.
Still, without evidence, DeSantis suggested issues at the ballot box.

(7,901 posts)pursuing such complaints. This is to say nothing of provisions in federal law requiring evidence of such activity during election for federal office being forwarded to the DOJ, FBI, and the Division of Civil Rights. If such evidence exists why has no judge or prosecutor seen it? Why has no independant observer reported it? Why is there no record of such complaints or suspicions lodged with the Secretary of State or the State Board of Elections, or any of the County boards?
Why would the Florida Supreme Court accept such a separation of powers based on hearsay?
As mentioned above this seems to be an attempt to install a Special Police (or Gestapo) to subvert the authority of the Florida Bureau of Criminal Investigations and Intelligence (BCII) in these matters.

(16,646 posts)Assuming that anyone is appointed/hired to such an organization is both competent, and feels the obligation to actually execute the duties of their office (a stretch I know) he should watch out. All of the election "irregularities" that have been found in Florida have been by the GQP. One of them is actually under criminal charges right now, not to mention the whole "Joel Greenberg" problem. They see criminals everywhere because they see themselves everywhere.
