This may be dumb but why can't the Dems censure Manchin and Sinema for Blocking (Original Post) Maraya1969 Nov 2021 OP
What exactly would that accomplish? JohnSJ Nov 2021 #1

You are a good sport Maraya. I am afraid you will get a lot of push back on this OP JohnSJ Nov 2021 #7

We need a win on BBB... so we need them to vote for something.

And next cycle we need more Democratic Senators.

If you think about it, clearly all that would do would be to harden their resolve not to cooperate with the Democratic caucus. That would not get those measures passed in any form.

Bad idea.

Pork/bribes/constituent activation.

Pork:
Pay fossil fuel companies to convert to renewables (e.g. wind/solar farms on top of old coal mines)
Pay pharma to distribute vaccines in the 3rd world

Bribes:
(See Pork; SineManchin will of course take their cut)

Constituent Activation:
Campaign incessantly in AZ and WV to tell them all the great stuff their Senators don't want them to have.

Although, this is annoying seeing those two negotiating, our party wants to have discussions and differences. We don’t want a 51 senate “yes” group like the Repugs. We do great when different ideas are brought in the discussion.

Disgusting, yes

But perplexing. You kept expecting that weird coalition to fall apart, but they maintained cohesion even if it put their careers at risk

I'll never understand it

Because everyone is afraid Sinema will jump ship to the republicans.. She's a flake who only seems
to be interested in making money and running triathlons. She started out as a green party and then switched to Dems and in all likelihood will end up with the republicans. Manchin, I don't think
will. Right now he's king of the mountain, the most important person in the senate. I have no
doubt the repubs are whispering sweet nothings in his shell like ear (to quote PG Wodehouse) and committees chairmanships he could have if he left the dems and went to the repubs but I'm
sure he knows in a year or so, he would be just another republican. We need more democratic senators desperately. I have two democratic senators (in Michigan) and we want to make sure
they are re-elected. Along with our governor, Gretchen Whitmer.
