depending on the context he was telling the joke. I could see this as being gallows humor from a person disgusted with the police or it could be more approving humor.

though a bad idea if it'd offer your name up to 20 million scumoftheearth social media hoodlums. I don't want to think of the death threats that must be flooding in to everyone searches associate with his name. He should at least have chosen a joke that could be taken as hostile to only one "side," instead of by anyone in the mood.

Like if the person you are threatening lives in the middle of a GOP area, they likely own lots of guns and would welcome someone to come to their home and try it.

Then of course there are the few people lucky enough to live off a portfolio and don’t have to work. If you can’t get them fired because they don’t have to work…and they are like the first paragraph…they are essentially immune to Twitter response.

...then they will get death threats from someone.

The threats are either (a) angry people blowing off steam, or (b) people posing as an opponent and seeking to make actual opponents look bad.

But the media trope of "X has been receiving death threats" is unhelpful, and drives (a) and (b).

One might look at all of the "today's person in the stocks for upsetting people on social media" and note that approximately zero physical harm has ever come to any of them, in order to assess how seriously one SHOULD take social media "death threats". But the ability to claims "those nasty people have been sending me death threats" is itself a valuable token in the game.
