Seriously, I can't even put it into words. She's easily the best legislator of my lifetime, and probably one of the greatest of all time.
Just wow. And that's not taking anything away from Biden, but Pelosi just keeps pulling rabbits out of a hat.

(13,431 posts)I'm sure she personally supports a very large BBB. However the conservatives in her caucus along with Manchin and Sinema have no interest in the bill and she just abandoned any leverage she had over them.

(19,972 posts)I share many of your fears that the Progressives will be stabbed in the back again, but I have a lot of faith in Pelosi, and that's what I am taking forward, especially Jayapal clearly trusts here.

(15,325 posts)Because Pelosi lives by the rule, 'count the votes'.
Nothing is brought to the floor unless she has the votes.
Biden & Pelosi knew earlier today, when the final yes vote was secured.
Biden made the announcement & Pelosi called the House to order.
It came swift, by the book, and it wss DONE.
THAT IS HOW SPEAKER PELOSI RUNS HER HOUSE.
Congrats! 💙
Madam Speaker & her House Democrats, President Biden & their dedicated staff, will all sleep peacefully tonight.
Beautifully accomplished. WOW.

(36,116 posts)can't believe anyone is celebrating this
Sacrificing Biden's social spending in the BBB for a watered down bill that gives private contractors tons of $$ and allocates less in 10 yrs than the military will get in 1 year.
The midterms are gone

(58,785 posts)the house version of the BBB, more than any other single individual, though almost every member of the house put their own hearts and dreams into it? Rumors have said she may retire and could leave happily with it safely passed.
Some other few, though, instead of standing united against Republican saboteurs, are obstructing by drawing on the strength of the Republicans for their leverage. Remember them? McConnell's opposition, blocked without help from Democratic side, is empowering their efforts, including by those being called the Sabotage Squad even by progressive media.
It really doesn't matter whether this little group within the CPC do it only for ideals or also for personal ambition, they're hurting the American people who need this bill and they're fighting Pelosi and all the rest of their progressive Democratic colleagues to do it.
Remember: "Don't just listen to what they say, examine what they do."

And, even if the larger package doesn't make it to the finish line, consider that what Pelosi was able to get through the House on Friday night amounts to the single largest public works program since Dwight Eisenhower started the interstate transit system.
That's just what Pelosi has done during the Biden presidency to date. It's to say nothing of her work to pass the Affordable Care Act under President Barack Obama, the largest overhaul of the country's health care system in decades -- and one that has withstood a series of legal challenges over its now-decade-plus of existence. She also can claim Dodd-Frank financial reform, repeal of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" and the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act under her time as speaker.
There is simply no other speaker who can rival that list of major policy accomplishments. And what Pelosi has done is made all the more remarkable by the fact that she has done so with decidedly narrow majorities which leave her almost no wiggle room in complex, multi-layered negotiations between warring factions within the party.
It's a remarkable legacy that, whether you like or hate Pelosi and her politics, you have to marvel at. There has simply never been someone better at the job of speaker than Nancy Pelosi.
