Ted Cruz Talks About Joe Rogan Being 'President' Of Texas If State Secedes From U.S.

In a startling address to constituents, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) recently talked about controversial COVID-19 conspiracist Joe Rogan becoming the “president” of Texas if the state secedes from the union.

“I’m not there yet,” Cruz told an audience last month at Texas A&M University about Texas seceding from the United States — popularly known as “Texit.” But “if there comes a point where it’s hopeless, then I think
we take NASA, we take the military, we take the oil,” he said to loud applause.

Asked if he would also take Rogan, a Texan, Cruz responded:
“Joe Rogan, he might be president of Texas!”

When Cruz was asked by a member of the audience about the possibility of seceding, he said he “understood the sentiment.” But he added that he wasn’t ready for it — yet.
“Look, if the Democrats end the filibuster ... if they pack the Supreme Court, if they make D.C. a state, if they federalize elections and massively expand voter fraud,” which doesn’t exist, “it may become hopeless,” Cruz said. “We’re not there yet.”

Cruz planned to speak last month at the University of Wisconsin in Madison, but the event was moved off campus because organizers refused to comply with the university’s policy requiring masks, WKOW-TV reported.

5.25 million of us voted for Biden/Harris, but WE need to be kicked out of the union.

OK, but only if every state who had LESS votes for Biden/Harris gets kicked out as well.

How did this guy get elected?

They're going to take NASA and the military? Ah, noooo...it's nice to see him so dedicated to the United States. Still talking about seceding. Anything to stir the pot of unrest that the Repubs can use against the Government. They should be careful, lest Mexico decides to invade the country of Texas. Yep, there's a lot to consider.

This was just a giant punk on the University audience.

Do they know where they get a nice chunk of their budgets? Where all their goods arrive/leave from? Who's subsidizing the crops they farm? I'm at the point where I say go, I'm sick of dirt, rocks and crazy people making life insane for the rest of us. They aren't a huge donor state though.
But, their balance of payments to the federal government is actually net positive, by a little.
That said, if the federal money used by the state government were to evaporate, there'd be a 16% hole in the budget.
The net positive balance would only close 60% of that gap, so they'd still have a 6.4% budget hole.
That does NOT include the impact of reduced commercial traffic through the state that is likely when customs, immigration, and tariffs (which they would need) result in some rerouting through Oklahoma.
He's promoting an economic disaster for his own state, despite that net positive balance.

You LOSE the military because it is a US military and you will not be part of the US. That means you lose @ 15 military bases and their families. Can you hear the the federal funds of the US leaving Texas? Cha chink gone.

NASA as well belongs to the US. Can you hear that money leaving Texas? Cha chink gone.

You take the oil and I can guarantee that we, the US, will never buy any Texas oil. Can you hear the money leaving Texas? Cha chink gone

Water? When you run out (and you will someday) that we would share the water of the US with secessionists? Fuck off and die on that one. Can you hear your people dying?

Can you picture the border wall going up around Texas? I doubt there will be any state that would welcome any Texans that agree with a secession so we would build the bestest, biggest, most beautiful unclimbable wall you can imagine.

Hey Ted, fuck off and choke on your spit while you sleep.

The Texas share of the military budget is about $125b a year. Take that out of the Texas economy. Then the US could pull a "Trump" and slap tariffs on all the products all these Texas companies make and want to ship to the other 49 states (Texas is the largest exporting state in the US). Currently Texas gets back about $.88 for every $1.00 in federal tax money they pay, but that's mostly due to the businesses. I'm sure they'll be happy to provide more tax dollars to support themselves. As for healthcare, I'm sure all the elderly in Texas will do fine without Social Security and Medicare. In a 2019 study I read (cbpp.org) it noted that Texas had the third highest number of seniors lifted above the poverty line from 2016-2018 (1,052,000 seniors). Don't forget education too. How are you going to pay for all those schools without the federal contribution?

It's a couple years old but I found a nice breakdown of the Texas budget. According to this in 2014 the state received $38b in federal aid which constituted 31% of its general revenues. They'll have to make that up themselves.

I think Texas would finally need an income tax? I'm sure all those "freedom loving Republican" folks would love that.

Yeah... I'm sure Texas would be just fine.
