I must have missed the memo.
Yesterday I saw a whole family wearing pajamas in public.

(14,120 posts)Heck I was one of them wearing them my freshman year.
The only class for communication history was at 8am.

(61,696 posts)They fit poorly, and the drawstring must have been gone and the elastic worn out. He had to hold them up with one hand the entire time. That's where I draw the line: you should wear clothes that don't fall off when you raise your hands.

(34,085 posts)That was a case of child abuse, though. He had been sent to school in pjs as a punishment for some infraction of the house rules. (Not the first time the parents' disciplinary methods came to the attention of the school.)

(32,706 posts)... well, that's basically pajamas. To me leggins ARE pajamas, or else they're long-johns (as in thermal underwear).
To me it's not a good look for women to wear leggins in public.

(11,601 posts)The thing with leggings is that they kind of started as footless tights and worn with longer tops or sweater dresses so one never really saw the butt area. They evolved into workout wear, and now everyday wear with any length top. They are not forgiving. Some (gawd!!!) are light colored and semi-sheer after being stretched out.

(11,601 posts)I countered they can be and gave the fit person answer as an example. I also gave others but pointed out that leggings are not very forgiving and can be semi-sheer when stretched out.
Is that a problem?

(11,601 posts)She always taught us that, no matter what, we put on proper clothing when going out in public. It became the norm for us.
When I see people out wearing pajamas or old stained clothes I assume they either are too poor to do otherwise or are in their own world. The latter seems to becoming the norm now.

(16,829 posts)When my relative was in assisted living, all the ladies came to meals nicely dressed. I guess they could have come in their nighties, but putting on clothes gives you a sense of normalcy and social decorum.
Staying in your pajamas all day is a way of saying I don't care what anybody thinks.

That said, if you ever see me in anything other than jeans, a shirt, and athletic shoe style hikers, I must be going to a funeral.

(3,358 posts)I've known of people who cry foul when someone in sweats boards an airplane or walks into a library. I'll never really understand that view. I guess we're just a very fashion-oriented consumer base. Or maybe what others wear gives us a chance to feel self-satisfied at their expense or something.
As far as I care, if it covers what it's supposed to cover, and doesn't smell bad, I can ignore it easier than white paint on a white wall.
