Analysis by Chris Cillizza, CNN Editor-at-large

(CNN)Almost 15 years ago, Nancy Pelosi wrote her name in the history books as the first female speaker of the House.
With the House vote to approve President Joe Biden's $1 trillion infrastructure package late Friday night, Pelosi has accomplished something else: She is now, without doubt, the most effective -- and impactful speaker in the last seven decades.
That is not, in any way, a partisan statement. It is purely a reflection of Pelosi's ability to shepherd major pieces of Democratic presidents' agenda through a closely divided House, with a knowledge of her caucus -- and the buttons that need to be pushed at the exact right time -- that no one who has come before her in the job has been able to match.
"Is Nancy Pelosi the most effective Speaker of all-time? (whether you like her agenda or not)," asked Bruce Mehlman, a Republican lobbyist, in a tweet with a screengrab of the final 228-206 winning vote for Pelosi on the so-called "hard" infrastructure package.
(much more, this is a good column, especially coming from the pen of Chris Cillizza.)

That said partisanship wasn't as bad, it was easier to get a few republican votes. Maybe apples and oranges....

(24,504 posts)She kept the Party together over the past 16 (?) years. I hope she makes her choice to replace her in Congress known. Who will be Speaker next? So many great options.

(16,847 posts)Generally speaking, women in positions of power have to work harder to get where they are. It's true in other democracies, too. Look at Thatcher and Merkel. It took a long time to get someone like Nancy, but she's proven to be very tough and the Republicans hate her. They hate her because she's so effective.

I have more to say about this later.
Pelosi is very very good, she got so much of Obama & Biden agendas through.

(32,982 posts)In my research regarding Speakers of the US House,(I limited this to post US Civil War), I do think history will see her with high regard for her actions during the Obama, Trump & Biden eras. She is similar, I think to Sam Rayburnof Texas serving with several POTUS & mentoring the future Democratic Speaker.

(2,541 posts)By the DOJs lack of any movement on DT or the Bannon subpoena.
If the DOJ does not arrest Bannon and soon the 1/6 committee may as well shut down. Because out of the 26 subpoenas sent out in the last few day
no one will show up.
As for the infrastructure bill. Its hard to get excited about it because all legislation passed by Dems if there is no voting protection legislation passed will be hollow. Right now the gop across the states is passing legislation to completely discount voting and basically choose who they want if this remains the status when the gop gets the majorities back they will simply dismantle everything the Dems do between now and midterms.
