hostile audience, all bearing crude weapons that look like they could, nevertheless, inflict serious damage. You'll be cut to the bone by venomous barbs thrust your way by hostile kinsmen and kinswomen trying to eliminate you from the competition. You'll be stifled by the heat of a tribal gathering intending to determine the yearly re-consideration of the pecking order. Soon you'll be reduced to a sad frame of bones, with some meat still hanging on them like moss on stalactites in a limestone cavern. There is sometimes tussle over who gets your furcula. You know, the "wishbone." I was wishing I had been spared the savagery of the gathering, but was feeling lucky to soon be done of them forever.
