(16,847 posts)obstacle to progress in the world. Every time politicians say they're going to do something about the addiction the world has to fossil fuels, they get bribed, threatened, or both. If someone comes along who refuses to be bought off or intimidated by them, they will have my support, but I don't see that happening. They ruin people's lives, not just the activists, but their families as well. They are, in a word, evil.

(16,184 posts)The industry isnt going to evaporate. If you are a chemical engineer or environmental engineer focused on point source capture, theres no place on earth that your contribution could make a difference than creative effective capture technologies. Refineries burning off excess, for example, are a huge contributor to emissions.
Lobbying sucks, but knowledge is useful.
Having worked for an industry that burned a lot of it, I realized one day that a project I pushed for at work would save more fuel and cut pollution than I could have done as an individual in a thousand years.
