We Will Never Avoid "Culture Wars". Ever.

I know y'all are hearing a lot about "culture wars" right now and why Democrats should avoid them. So, I wrote about it, specifically why that's not only impossible but a terrible electoral strategy.

We Will Never Avoid "Culture Wars". Ever.
So, stop trying to ignore them.

Let’s start here.

You opened this for the same reason most others did: putting aside your own feelings on “culture wars”, you’re just plain confused and even worried after Virginia, and a lot of smart people are making arguments that contradict each other and you don’t know who to believe.

Whatever you are—Democrat, Independent, liberal, progressive, leftist, moderate, anti-Trump conservative—you opened this because you correctly judged we are at a crossroads in the Democratic Party and even if you don’t like Democrats, you sure as hell aren’t going to support Trump’s Republican Party.

So, you’re hoping that the very open debate over “culture wars”, and whether or not Democrats should run away or engage on them, will somehow smartly resolve itself in the collective before Midterms escalate after the holidays.

Hell, maybe you hate all discussion of so-called “culture wars” anyway, and you’re wondering why in the hell those of us who talk about them so often won’t just wake up and realize Democrats only need a broad economic strategy like the good ole Clinton White House days of yore.

Dems are on the side of common decency and common sense. But this is the battle Republicans are choosing and they think they will win with it.

If you don’t listen to the rhetoric and you look around at the culture and ask what has actually won out?

I’ve been fearing that people would take away the wrong message from McAuliffe’s loss and blame it on Dem “wokeness” or some such bullshit.

Republicans are the ones who waste time standing outside clinics calling women whores, screaming at gay people as going to burn in hell, etc.

The average left leaning Dem or Indy doesn't have time to for such shit.

Republicans run to the voting machines to condemn minorities.

McAuliffe could have pivoted away from CRT (which is not taught to any school child), he should have acknowledged parental voice and responsibility, but then asked the question, "Why does my opponent object to teaching anti-racism"? Why is he lying about CRT which is not taught anywhere in Virginia? Why isn't he running on his actual goals?

160 years ago, you know what the biggest culture wars issue was? Owning a human being or not.

If the side against slavery remained "neutral" on it, do you think the pro-slavery side would have also been neutral? No.
