Damage from the insurrection and penalties for the people involved
"What are the Penalties for Destruction of Property in Washington, D.C.? If the value of the property damaged is more than $1,000, you can be fined for up to $5,000 and/or imprisoned for up to ten years. If the value is less than $1,000, then you can be fined up to $1,000 and/or sentenced up to 180 days in jail."
According to NPR the damages to the Capital Building is at $30 million and expected to go up from there.
Why is it that most of the "Patriots" involved are getting off with misdemeanors? That $30 million is coming out of taxes that we have paid, pretty much just throwing money away to make something look like it did before it was destroyed, and there have been little to no consequences for the perpetrators.
The way I see it, if someone was in the Building while it was being damaged, they are just as guilty as the actual vandals. They at the very least were trespassing and at the most considered accomplices.
As for assaulting a Police Officer, I am sure a large number of those were caught on video. Washington DC penalties for officer assault
How long can you go to jail for assaulting a federal officer?
Battery against an officer may be a misdemeanor (punishable by up to one year in jail) or a felony (punishable by one year or more in prison). The more serious the battery, the more harshly the crime is punished.
Every single person video taped of at the least hitting an officer should spend a year in jail, period.
