Democrats move to censure GOP Rep. Paul Gosar over violent anime video

A group of House Democrats said Wednesday they plan to introduce a motion censuring Rep. Paul Gosar, R-Ariz., for posting an edited, animated video depicting him killing Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., and attacking President Joe Biden.

Rep. Jackie Speier, co-chair of the Democratic Women’s Caucus, and nine other lawmakers issued a joint statement announcing their plans to file the measure on Friday.

“For a Member of Congress to post a manipulated video on his social media accounts depicting himself killing Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and attacking President Biden is a clear cut case for censure," the lawmakers said in a statement. "For that Member to post such a video on his official Instagram account and use his official congressional resources in the House of Representatives to further violence against elected officials goes beyond the pale.”

Censure is considered the harshest form of punishment in the House after expulsion. It requires a floor vote, and a simple majority to pass. Nearly two-dozen members have been censured by the House since 1832, according to the Congressional Record. The most recent was former Rep. Charlie Rangel, D-N.Y., who was censured in a 333-79 vote in 2010 for ethics violations.

It's saying that expulsion is the most harsh.

1) Expulsion
2) Censure

Censure comes after expulsion in the list. The sentence could also use a comma to make it clearer.

"Censure is considered the harshest form of punishment in the House, after expulsion."

But I would stick with “before”, or “short of”. But “calling in sick” has become “calling out sick”, and “based in” has become “based out of”, so . . .

I don't want to post spoilers since I actually would recommend Shingeki no Kyojin (Attack on Titan) as a good anime to watch. But without giving anything away, he's effectively depicting himself as the hunter in the clip. Except the hunter ends up getting hunted in the anime series. Oh and the copyright holders should have whacked a DMCA on Twitter etc. IMO.

But back on topic... Congressional Representatives should be held to a higher standard and yes he should be censured. At a minimum.
