I'm glad my folks are no longer living there; My mother passed in FL 10+ years ago, and Dad moved to Iowa, where he passed after living in a 'community,' and being overseen by my brother.
Concerned about all my high school classmates (AND DUers) who ARE there.

(51,611 posts)who is looking to transfer to a job there only so he can be near his mother who moved there. I have the feeling that is one of the reasons many Dems end up moving there. This is the second friend who did this in the last 3 years.
The only time I set foot in the state was when I visited my grandmother. I hate just about everything in FL, from large insects and high humidity to a freeway that has billboards lining it with advertisements for funeral homes and nursing homes as well as probate lawyers. I left out the fact that they drive super slowly as a huge pet peeve.

(205,508 posts)I know a really nice older lady who goes there every winter and last year I warned her because of what we were hearing about Covid, but of course she went anyway, said she lives in a "safe" area. *sigh* And now that we know about DeSantis' insanity, it's definitely worse - but this lady left for Florida again just last week.
