Sen. Joe Manchin’s efforts to winnow down key parts of Joe Biden’s agenda appear to have earned him clout with a like-minded constituency: Republican billionaires.

In a Wednesday morning interview with CNBC, Home Depot co-founder Ken Langone said that he plans to raise money for the West Virginia Democrat’s 2024 reelection campaign.

“I’m going to have one of the biggest fundraisers I’ve ever had for him,” Langone told CNBC. “He’s special. He’s precious. He’s a great American.”

Langone is one of the GOP’s most prominent rainmakers, famous for pouring money into Mitt Romney’s presidential campaign. According to the Center for Responsive Politics, he has also contributed to some Democrats in the past, including former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (N.Y.).

Manchin’s campaign and Senate office did not respond to requests for comment.

Manchin has also received public praise from Nelson Peltz, a billionaire investor, who previously hosted fundraisers for Donald Trump in his Florida home. In an October interview, Peltz told CNBC that he speaks with Manchin every week and offers him words of encouragement.

That's good. We need his seat added to the D numbers to keep the committees and the majority. Scrivener7 Nov 2021 #4

They say he's a good man, and that when it comes time he always does the right thing.

We'll see, no breath-holding here.

I have become totally tired and miserable about the attention given this "democrat" and his overall situation. There have been "non-democrat" democrats over all the years I have been voting. I have been generally, here in Florida, registered as an "Independent" because of the rules about voting decisions in this state. We have to resolve for ourselves what is acceptable to us for our political party affiliations and donations.

Mine is pretty simple: I don't like or support two faced hypocrites.

It's better that we don't have to pay for it.

Now the trick is to elect more D's in other places so we can neutralize Manchin and Sinema. We need our own money for that, and now we'll have more of it.

It wouldn't surprise me now if the non-Trumper Republicans and Manchin and Sinema started a third party or coalition. There seems to be some desire from some of the wealthy people for a "moderate" center-right party that isn't beholden to Trump. Some powerful people, I think, want to pull away from Trump, which is good, but that doesn't mean they're going to be good for the people. They will want to tear down Social Security and Medicare just like they were doing before they got interrupted by all of the events of the last 5 years or so.
