The Veterans of World War II are Going Fast

My father was one of them. I am 76 years old. My father died at 96 years of age in January of this year. He was a B-17 pilot. We are nearing the time when no WWII veterans remain alive. There haven't been any living WWI veterans for years, now. My grandfather served in the Army during WWI. I was fortunate enough to know him.

And so it goes. Soon enough, the last Korean War era veterans will be gone, followed by the Vietnam era veterans like me. The pity of all this is that some from every generation live to see veterans from the previous generations die, and with them the memories they hold.

Sometimes, it seems like every generation must have its own war. The veterans of all of those wars will be remembered by their children and grandchildren, and then forgotten as individuals who served. But, it seems, there will always be another war and a new set of veterans to serve.

I would love to see things change so that we have some generations that never have to send its members off to war. Maybe that would break the long, long chain of wars and soldiers. The end of warfare should always be our goal, it seems to me, but so soon we forget the generations of veterans who went before.

much of the real understanding of and resistance to fascism (Antifa). How much longer until there is a movement to ban teaching the horrors of fascism in schools?

Last night I caught part of a recent Al Jazeera documentary on Agent Orange. Two of my friends from high school were exposed to AO in Vietnam and died years later from the long-term effects.

Found the AO documentary online. It's 46 minutes long if anyone is interested:
