been convicted of threatening lawmakersA 73-year-old man in Venice, Florida, has been convicted of threatening three members of Congress, and Rep. Ilhan Omar said she was one of the targets.
A federal jury found Frank Anthony Pezzuto guilty Wednesday of sending "three separate threatening communications to injure certain members of Congress," according to the US Attorney's Office for the Middle District of Florida.
Pezzuto called the office of a congressman identified only as E.S. on January 25, 2020, saying he was coming to kill him, according to evidence presented at the trial.
On January 30, 2020, Pezzuto called the office of another congressman, identified as A.S., and claimed he was a member of the gang MS-13 and that the gang was coming to cut off A.S.'s head, according to the evidence.

(88 posts)These congress people don't even live in his state. Why do people take politics so seriously that they are willing to put their own freedom at risk for nothing, nothing. Now this 73 year old idiot is going to die in prison instead of at home with his grand kids. And for what? To make some kind of statement? To be a hero to the conservative right? To impress trump? He may be just some old sociopathic nut job with nothing else better to do.

(14,024 posts)My bet would be that he has been soaking up hatred like a sponge for decades, feels helpless, and finds that making violent threats gives him grandiose feelings of power and influence that give his pitiful existence the illusion of importance.
I could be totally wrong, of course.

It doesn't matter what someone is interested in, take it seriously and you are targeted by that interest. Some of us are nuts.

(8,752 posts)Im retired, and the college curriculum I taught was Fish and Wildlife Management and Forest Ecology. This degree brought in a large component of students with Fifty Shades of Red on their necks. Hunters and gun fans.
In the fall of 2008, Obamas Election victory night, two of my students were back home in South Carolina. Twin males, starting sophomore year. Election night, they were texting like minded racists, Time to get your guns and kill that N. And lots more.
In the early morning hours, federal agents stormed the home and arrested them both. Took ALL their precious guns and parents computers, being that is how they sent out the call to kill. In Less than 24 hours with no where near as much tech to find this so fast.
Both were kicked out of the college, both have felonies and all guns were kept with no legal right to ever own a gun again. There goes their Legal hunting. Parents were charged with allowing them to use their computer to send death threats.
Forget EVER having a federal or state job in wildlife or forestry field. Lives ruined. Justice was instant. Two white boys threatening the first black President elect. And the justice was immediate while the Cheney President administration had 2 months left in office.
So please tell me what the hell is Garland, FBI, HLS, and all others are doing with these endless death threats to political leaders and families, doctors, nurses, election officials and teachers.
And just now, appeals court denies 1/6 committee access to WH docs.
Fuck this place. Fuck this lack of justice. Fuck these times.
Trump and GQP Terrorist will never see a second of justice.
Happy veterans day to all fellow vets that served for us to be here.

(8,752 posts)But time is running out, and they know it. Infuriating. But if any accountability is not achieved by not just the midterms but the election season, I am afraid many Dems will lose courage to seek justice during a bitter fight for the senate and house. We lose those, Its done. They ALL

and most of what she reported was in real time.
What you report as the penalties for these young mens crime (and is is a crime) was what we used to expect would happen.
When Obama entered office, I recall that the GOP set out to stymie his every appointment. How much effect did that have, long term?
When Trump came in, I remember sitting with my husband, jaws dropped, as the Bannon-Trump agenda to destroy the administrative state (Bannons very words) unfolded and fascism was revealed. It happened so fast.
Rachel Maddows reports helped give some shape to what we were seeing, but the bigger question in my mind as we watched the acquiescence and lack of resistance was this: How long had the rot been going on and how deep did the rot go?
I think that is what we are witnessing: rot. It is not Bidens fault. But I think (per Rachel) that the DOJ was hollowed out before he got there, and career civil servants were purged or just left. It happened at State as well, and other critical departments. Im beginning to think Merrick Garland is the wrong man for the time, but also that he may have one leg shackled as he tries to do his job.
I have no answers. Just questions.
