Manchin objects to tax credit for union-made EVs in spending package

Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) expressed opposition to a provision in Democrats’ climate and social spending bill that would give additional tax credits for union-built electric vehicles.

A version of the legislation released by the House would provide customers a $7,500 tax credit for new electric vehicles, with an additional $4,500 credit if the vehicle is made in the U.S. by union workers.

Manchin objected to the $4,500 credit for union-built vehicles.

“When I heard about this, what they were putting in the bill, I went right to the sponsor [Sen. Debbie Stabenow, D-Mich.] and I said, ‘This is wrong. This can’t happen. It’s not who we are as a country. It’s not how we built this country, and the product should speak for itself,' ” Manchin told Automotive News during a Toyota event in his home state.

NOT a union country, I guess.

Where's HE from? AHA, West Virginia, I get it.

After a successful coal miners' strike in 1897, John Mitchell became president (1898–1908) and led the union through a period of rapid growth—despite determined opposition by mine operators. Workers staged another successful strike in 1902. By 1920 the UMWA had gained about 500,000 members.

The United Mine Workers of America (UMW or UMWA) is a North American labor union best known for representing coal miners. ... After passage of the National Recovery Act in 1933 during the Great Depression, organizers spread throughout the United States to organize all coal miners into labor unions.

I'd trade in my BMW, it's old but it's still a nice car. I'd be happy to trade it in for a union made EV without hesitation.

25 in the house and expel Manchin. If it happens, you heard it from here first. If it didn't, then forget I said anything. In fact, unless it happens: forget I said anything

Stabenow's taking her constituents' side, that of the hard-working men and women who do the actual work of assembling those vehicles. Who are your constituents, presumably not the union members whose Labor creates the Wealth?

He gets one concession, and he moves on to another complaint.

What other senate seats do we have a shot at winning next year? And can we still win them without passing this bill? That's the only way this will ever get done.

You passed it and gave away the one piece of leverage over Manchinema.

Now he's gutting one of Biden's major piece of environmental agenda just after he came back from COP26.

Seriously what is his problem?
