Still hate Hillary? Get over it: She was right about Trump then -- and she's right now

If you still hate Hillary Clinton for some reason, time to get over it. She was right about Donald Trump and his movement in 2016, and she's right now.

As I wrote here several weeks ago, "In many ways, Clinton was too kind. If anything, she underestimated how many Americans were in fact committed and enthusiastic human deplorables":

After that speech, Clinton was pilloried by the mainstream news media, some leading Democrats, and of course the Republican Party and right-wing propaganda hate machine. Clinton's characterization of Trump's "basket of deplorables" was described as insensitive and unfair to the "white working class" Americans that elites and out-of-touch Democrats had too often ignored.

That reaction to Clinton's truth-telling helped to legitimate Trumpism and American neofascism (operating under the mask of "populism&quot as something that was reasonable and understandable, rather than as a manifestation of racial resentment, a racist temper tantrum and a declaration of white supremacy. This reflected our society's deep investment in a narrative of white racial innocence. In that logic, America is a great and exceptional country, and by implication, this is especially true of white people — especially those "real Americans" whose supposed patriotism and presumed Christian values render them a bit more American than anyone else.

In the weeks since then, evidence has only mounted on the seriousness of the Trump regime's coup plot and how close the United States came to succumbing to a Republican fascist revolution. That coup attempt has not ended. Indeed, it is escalating, and America is fast approaching a point of no return.

The response to my essay about Clinton's warnings about Trump's "deplorables" was an outpouring of rage from self-described progressives, leftists, liberals and others who claim to oppose Donald Trump. In essence, it was a lot of people who seemed to be psychologically decompensating or in the midst of an emotional breakdown. These reactions were rooted in unrestrained hatred toward Hillary Clinton — and, in this case, toward anyone who would dare to suggest she was ever correct about anything. . .

I remember loads of propaganda about her, almost all of which was false. That all contributed to Trump's victory.

Hillary has been prescient about so many things, not just the deplorables.

You didn't have to "hate" HIllary to think she was both correct in her statements, and the wrong candidate

The article is kinda weird though. Asking people to have a huggy moment with Bill Kristol to help defeat Trump's fanbase. Just another chorus of wE nEeD a sTronG RePulicAn parTy

and helped get Trump elected. It's not "so five years ago." Trump continues to represent a threat to American democracy, and she was damn well right about that and virtually everything else. The responses the author of the article got were very recent, not five years ago. It turns out her detractors were as wrong as wrong can be. The lies they spread were shocking. And I'm not talking about the primary.

She was smart, and the wrong candidate. She went in with severe negative ratings and was under active investigation by law enforcement under the control of the GOP. Not her fault, but a problem none the less. Surely there was someone other than Bernie that could have fulfilled the roll.

A nice sauve, but at the end of the day, it was useless that she had 3 million more votes basically from California. She lost and it was predictable if not obvious. Trump "won" by about 80k votes in 3 states, which in many evaluations is a tie. It should never been that close. We nominated Biden because he would win. We should have been as pragmatic in 2016.

She was ahead until the Comey letter. It was only after that that Trump gained more support in swing states. This is a fact. Trump was as shocked as anybody that he won. He didn't win because he ran a great campaign.

Biden ran on about the same Democratic Party platform as in 2016 (in fact Hillary ran on ACA with Medicare at 55 while Biden had it at 60.) Both were the most progressive to date. He won so nobody criticized his campaign. If he had lost he'd be blamed for making mistakes.

Trump got more votes in 2020 than he did in 2016. "It should never have been that close"?

I remember knocking on doors of Democrats to get the vote out, I remember many that were not going to vote at all.

I asked why, they all said because she has emails!!
What are these emails about? "I don't know" was the response.

FOX and others did a "great" job on her is all I can say.

"Why should we vote for Clinton, and don't mention the Supreme Court." Of course the court didn't matter to them. Their privilege meant that stripping away civil rights and women's rights was of no consequence to them.
They accused Clinton of hysterics for pointing about the danger of Trump, and some of them voted third party or even for Trump.

She's been right about a lot of things, and her detractors couldn't have been more wrong.

If only she hadn't given up her BlackBerry phone, ignored white people, said "deplorables," had scheduled more rallies in Wisconsin she'd have won.

The drip-drip-drip of constantly repeating emails, unlikeable, untrustworthy (for the general public). Something like 85% negative press for the Democratic candidate.

The erasure of her history and record replaced with a fictional corrupt monster worse than Trump (invented to peel off voters from Democrats to third party/not voting: she'll start WWIII five minutes after inauguration, neoliberal, establishment, elite, hates working class, racist, rigged, murders people, etc). "Progressive" audiences trained to boo loudest at the words "Democratic establishment."

The Comey letter comes out and media says the FBI is reopening investigation, her polling numbers fall. When the swing state undecided go online all they see are conspiracy theories about her grave illness and lock her up. They shifted to Trump. But sure, if she just hadn't said deplorables and held a few more rallies and there were more yard signs, she'd totally have won in swing states.

Again:

I've never seen such a lust to hate anybody like that before. Really sick. I'd seen people brainwashed by right-wing propaganda, but not from other directions.

She was right then, and she's right now. In fact, she's been spot on from the start.

If only more Americans had opened their ears and minds, they might have truly seen and heard her.

We lost a great opportunity.
