The former chief executive of a tech company in suburban Chicago who lost his job after he threw a chair inside the U.S. Capitol during the Jan. 6 riot was sentenced Friday to 30 days imprisonment.
U.S. District Judge Carl Nichols also ordered Bradley Rukstales, of Inverness, Illinois, to pay $500 in restitution, court records show.
Rukstales previously acknowledged he stormed the Capitol, threw a chair in the direction of police officers who had been forced to retreat from rioters, was nearby as a melee between officers and rioters broke out and had to be dragged away by officers after he refused to comply with attempts to get him up from the floor.
Though they said the officers werent in danger of being hit by the chair, prosecutors said Rukstales noncompliance added to the chaos in the Capitol.
Rukstales was forced out as CEO of Cogensia and sold interests in the firm after his participation in the riot became known and the boards of directors for the firms clients were ready to cancel contracts.

(22,169 posts)Pffftt! He threw a chair at cops, and missed. The intention is still clear.
I would be much happier if the lot of them were sent off to Gitmo as domestic terrorists and never heard from again.

"Federal prosecutors said it took three officers to effectuate the arrest of Rukstales and that Rukstales directly contributed to law enforcement being overwhelmed because it took at least three officers to get him under control during a volatile point in the overall attack on the Capitol.

It is also fair to say that I was personally frustrated and concerned with our countrys political discourse after the 2020 election, Rukstales said. When I learned about the rally on January 6, it seemed to me that momentum was growing, and that the event would be an important constitutional moment in our republics history. That is why I came to Washington, D.C. on that day, and brought my family.
"...Rukstales eldest daughter, a teacher in her mid-20s, wrote in a letter to the judge that they disagree politically but that he shouldnt be defined by his actions on Jan. 6.
I am aware of my fathers charges. I do not condone his actions that have led to those charges. Politically, my father and I are on opposite sides. However, his actions on that day should not taint his character, his daughter wrote. In a phone conversation we had the other day, he told me that he believes he got too involved and he has learned how dangerous it is to get too deeply involved in a political movement instead of focusing on the love and service that Christ calls of us.
His enablers are still supporting and soothing him.
